to those who have already given birth

I was just wondering, as soon as the baby is out, are you relieved of all pain? Do you immediately feel better?

thanks

Re: to those who have already given birth

after the baby comes out you still have to deliver the placenta, but after that came out I did feel a huge relief.

Agreed. Once my son came out I just wanted to look at him, watch the nurses weigh him, etc. so I wasn't so aware of the pain anymore.

Depends on the pain??? With my first I had really bad groan pain and back pain. the back pain went away, but the groan pain stayed for several months thereafter.

Nausea will go away within days if not right away. Exhaustion, stays... but it's a different typeChat Icon

ETA: are you referring to the pain of contractions??? Yes, the worst ones. you still feel some afterwards since your uterous has to contract back, but it's not bad. doable.

Re: to those who have already given birth

This was a good question since I thought once she was out I would feel no pain.

Nope! I had such bad contractions birthing the placenta and the epi had long worn off(they turned off when I started pushing since I wasn't pushing well) so it really hurt. I was so surprised!

I also felt some really strong pain during breast feeding when my uterus started contracting back.

Re: to those who have already given birth

I had an epidural. But I will tell you that after the baby is out, that's it! I didn't feel anything. No pressure or nothing. I didn't even notice them doing the afterbirth.

Re: to those who have already given birth

I wasn't in pain once I had the epidural, but the pressure was relieved once the baby is out (and placenta is delivered).

You'll still be sore and have some discomfort, but I wouldn't call it pain.

Re: to those who have already given birth

You will be sore. You might have decent period type cramps as your uterus contracts down. But as soon as the baby is born its pretty much over. I felt cramps after #1 and then #2 I had basically nothing. Felt great. (of course a litte sore down there)

Re: to those who have already given birth

Well, I had labor and a c-section and the pain afterwards was pretty terrible. I did not even consider the possibility that I might end up with a section. I was totally ignorant.

No epidural here.

Right afterwards, you still feel sore. They need to get the placenta out so after you deliver it, you'll be in much better shape.

Post partum, your uterus needs to contract. They'll give you a post partum shot of poticin to get it moving. After that, most of the cramping is periodlike - except while nursing. Nursing helps your uterus contract so you will feel cramps while you nurse. Those cramps get more difficult with each delivery - but nothing too unbearable.Chat Icon

I was so sick my entire pregnancy that after going through labor and delivery -- when I saw DS I forgot about everything else. And for the 1st time in 9 months I was not sick to my stomach!

I was pretty sore afterwards but every day got better Chat Icon

Same here...just a little tender from pushing so hard and swelling. But that only lasted a few days.

I had a vaginal birth and yes, you are relieved of pain once the labor stops and your placenta is delivered. But don't fool yourself to think that you will be dancing in the recovery room once you have given birth. Your body has gone through a big trauma and you will take a few weeks to feel yourself again. If you tear or have to have stitches, that can be painful, also, I think that no one really tells you how much you bleed after you have your baby. I bled for about six weeks, no one really tells you about the extent of that. Doing a poo after you give birth...whoo momma, thats like giving birth all over again!

But to be honest, once you have your baby, all of that pain will disappear, and you won't remember it. Whilst I remember that I was uncomfortable after having my son, I don't actually remember the pain.

Re: to those who have already given birth

for me, passing the placenta felt like passing a bowl of jello - so that didn't hurt at all. what did hurt was being stitched up - that to me was THE worst part of labor.
