To the racist 'gentleman' ...
Dear a**hole,
Thank you so much for showing me what holiday spirit is. Thank you for showing what it means to be a good Christian. I truly appreciated hearing you degrade Jewish people as I walked out of the stores today. It made me feel really great. I appreciate the fact that you apologized when I said to you really should watch what you say because this "jew" didn't appreciate your comments, but I didn't think in 2007 that people still talked like that in public. I would never think that people would just outright say things like that in public anymore. In this day and age you never know who you are standing next to.
Thank you again for showing me what the meaning of the holiday season is all about.
I will go put my horns away now.

I am sorry you had to go through that. As someone who is not someone who "looks Jewish," I have been on the receiving end of such comments with out the person's knowledge. I can also say that the person is not sorry for what he said, or he never would have said it. He just got caught and would rather save face than look like an a**hole. Odds are, he will say it over and over again until he finds someone who agrees with him. So sad that these people live, breathe and breed among us.

I too do not look Jewish (my dad is Sicilian). I also do not look like I speak fluent Spanish and often shock people when they have talked about me and didn't think I have understood.
I have no doubt that the man is NOT sorry. Believe me I know better. I am just shocked. My husband says I need to get out more. But I don't think I have heard people just randomly say the n word, call a Spanish person a racist word or heard and Italian called the G word in a long time in public. I thought people were getting better. I am just shocked that this man did that in a random parking lot. Well, I just know that it will be a good lesson for me to go back and talk to my students about on Monday. I just hope that each generation gets a little better.

I look sort of Irish and sometimes people think I could be German. I speak Spanish too. One of my best kept secrets. When the man at the deli near work said to the man at the counter:
"La rubia es muy bonita."
I quickly said "Cambio por favor." and left with both of them staring like deer in headlights. It just goes to show you that you never know who is around you and that people should be sensitive.

Jaime... some people are just ignorant. I mean - there are evil people in the world but I think most are just talking to hear themselves speak. We can only hope that maybe you - in some small way - changed at least one of his negative perceptions.

I've always found it interesting that people who consider themselves "Christians" forget that the person they follow and believe in was, Himself, a Jew. These people are more than ignorant. They are blind, stupid and pitiful. They could, also, use a good smack.
