to lotion or not to lotion -that is the ?

i've heard so many things about lotioning up during pregnancy to help/prevent stretch marks.

one side says - no....more moisture makes the body think it can stretch more than it can

other side says yes..moisture moisture and more moisture or else...

what do you guys do?

Re: to lotion or not to lotion -that is the ?

I haven't moisturized at all - today was the second time I put something on and that was because under my boobs was burning and I was hoping it would help.

ETA: I am 34 weeks and don't have stretch markst yet (I'm not sure when they appear though)

I say yes because your skin can get rather itchy without it!
Strech marks can happen with or without lotion....they're mostly genetic.

I use lotion at least every other day. I don't think it will prevent stretch marks but I don't want dry, itchy skin either

That's why I put lotion on, for the itchyness. One day I didn't put it on after the shower because I was rushing and I could not stop scratching.
I do not have any strech marks on my tummy but I have them on hips.

I have stretch marks on my hips and boobies, I am hoping I don't get them on my belly now.

I use lotion practically everyday on my whole body, but I did before I got pregnant too.

Re: to lotion or not to lotion -that is the ?

I am a lotion believer. I don't think I ever heard that using it can cause your skin to stretch more. I had a ton of stretch marks from my fibroid surgery. No one realizes the way they pull and lift your skin during a surgery. I know that there is no scientific evidence that creamss will fade them but mine are a lot lighter and some are gone since I have started using the product that I use now--which I didn't start until a couple of years after I got the stretch marks. I use Dream Cream by Lush. External Image

I used lotion occasionally when my stomach itched.

Didnt get any stretch marks - neither did my mom - it's genetic.

Re: to lotion or not to lotion -that is the ?

I lotion twice a day and have throughout my pregnancy, I have no stretch marks and very little itching, so it's working out for me. Don't know if it is actually what is helping the stretch marks, but it should be helping the itching. I am 34 weeks.

I bought Belly Balm and have been using it already. Moisture makes your skin more elastic so it can bounce back without the stretch marks.

Re: to lotion or not to lotion -that is the ?

I try to remember to put on my stretch mark lotion, but I forget a lot of days. I don't have stretch marks yet (30 weeks) but I think that has more to do with genes. I think the lotion just helps fade them when you are done, maybe lessen the severity while you are pregnant.

Re: to lotion or not to lotion -that is the ?

For the most part I haven't used too much lotion on my belly. I had some stretch marks (very light in color) from when I gained and lost weight a few years back (well lost it a few years back - gained it over time). Those have remained light in color - so lucky no dark colored stretch marks.

At 36 1/2 weeks I am noticing that my belly is a little itchy at times - I am thinking that it's stretching so I have lotioned to relieve that.

I think it's true - getting stretch marks and they type they are all have to do with genetics.

Re: to lotion or not to lotion -that is the ?

When I started showing I was using baby oil after the shower and then when my belly really started growing I started using the Palmer's cocoa butter like every other day. I have NO stretch marks on my belly at all at 21 weeks, my butt and upper thighs and boobs have some but I have not been itchy at all so I would use something if you want to.

Stretch marks are genetic and no matter what you use, if your mom had stretch marks, you ar emost likely to get them as well...but i think its good to lotion up your belly bc your skin does get very itchy...
