To Clomid, or not to Clomid?
Hey all,
As most of you already know, it's my first month on Metformin. My RE is ready to take the aggressive path with me and have me start Clomid right away before seeing if the Met alone will work (she said 80% of women O on the combo vs. about 20% on the Met alone).
I'm supposed to start the Clomid tomorrow, but now I've been reading up on it--is it true that you can only take it for a maximum of 12 cycles in your LIFETIME?
Now that I know that, I feel like I should have opted to have the HSG done. She said it was optional since we were just beginning. She said if we're not in too big a rush, to try for a couple of months and just see what happens.
But now I'm feeling like I should just try the Met for awhile, KWIM?
I don't know what to do!

I have read this before also. I think it's true.

the only thing I can comment on is with regard to the HSG. I think you should be aware if there are any tube blockages first.

Yeah...I didn't do it because she suggested taking 3 advil 2 hours before, and the office was closing before then. I told her since I was in no hurry, we'd do a couple of months of "let's see what happens". I'm still open to that, but I don't know if I want to "waste" months on Clomid when there could potentially be a problem.
Grrrrrr nothing like having to look out for your own best interests, huh?

Re: To Clomid, or not to Clomid?
I was never told that Clomid has a max of 12x but I do know that it is supposed to thin your lining over time..Personally I have been on Clomid (w/out Met) for a total of 14 cycles and it never affected my lining...Clomid helped me get pg w/ my DS so for me it was a blessing...I too agree that you should do an HSG asap, I'm sure if you didnt want to miss a cycle you can go ahead with it and do the HSG next cycle - but definately get it done (worst case scenario if you do have any blockages- is you won't get pg. I guess)...Good Luck in whatevver you decide !!!

I would definitely get the HSG done before starting clomid.
Good Luck!

I agree. Make sure there are no blockages first before moving forward. GL!
