Tiramisu?

My job had dessert for the shower they threw me today. My boss handed out Tiramisu after wards for everyone. She gave me a plate of it which i brought back to my desk. I literally had one spoonful as I was on the phone.

She sent out the recipe b/c everyone was raving about it. It has cognac and sounds like raw egg? This can't be safe to eat...I only had that 1 spoonful. What do you think?

o TIRAMISU

- 3 eggs
- 250 g mascarpone
- little flat and thin biscuits (style 'langues de chat - or Italian Pavesini biscuits) > in America, we call them Lady Fingers
- 3 big spoons of sugar
- cognac
- very strong espresso coffee
- dark bitter chocolate powder

Separate yellow from white of the eggs

Mix the yellow with the sugar until obtaining a clear and smooth paste. Add the mascarpone cheese,

Make some espresso (equivalent of 2 cups roughly) and let till it gets cold. Add a spoon of sugar and a spoon of cognac.

Beat the egg white until they become hard. Add to the mascarpone mixture. Add a spoon of cognac.

Dump the biscuits one by one in the coffee (very quickly, they should get mushy).
Line a deep plate with a layer of biscuits. Add half of the mascarpone mixture on top. Sprinkle some bitter dark chocolate on top.

Add another layer of biscuits dumped in coffee, then the second half of mascarpone and finish by sprinkling more dark bitter chocolate.

Cover with foil and put in fridge until you eat it.

Tiramisu?

You only had one spoonful so you will be fine but Tiramisu does have raw eggs in it.

Re: Tiramisu?

I'm sure there was so little congac in there so I wouldn't worry. As for the eggs I'm sure thats ok too. There is actually a pretty small chance that eggs have salmanella. I ate Caesar salad at my shower that I knew was homemade with raw eggs. Everything in moderation. I have been eating (well tasting) raw cake batter all my lift and it's been fine. I didn't while pregnant just as a precaution.

Yeah I would have never known there was raw egg in Turamisu... I've never made it before!

They probably had no idea!

Tiramisu?

i personally never liked tiramisu, so i would never eat it..but i had no idea you had to put raw eggs in there...
with tht said, if i was throwing a bridal shower for someone at work, iw ouldn't be making something that had either raw eggs or liquor in it. Its not fair the the expecting mama. There are so many other desserts to choose from that are safer options.
Either way, you only had that one spoonful, so I think you'll be fine!

But the person that made it hasn't been pregnant; and she may not have known the risk of serving raw eggs to someone who is pregnant.

Right, how often do people lick the spatula after they put the cake in the oven or eat raw cookie dough? Quite often. How often does someone get sick? Hardly. So she may have thought it didn't matter.

I figure she wasn't thinking about it and was probably just making a dessert that usually goes over well and thought it would be nice.

I don't think she did it on purpose and I really think you and baby will be just fine.

Maybe the alcohol killed any bacteria from the egg Chat Icon
