Re: Tips to ease pain of getting first shots?
First shots when they are babies are easier. Gets tougher as they get older and understand. Honestly, it's worse on you then them. I cried at DS's first shot. He cried a second and was totally fine by the time he was in his carseat, which was right after. They don't even know what happened. If he uses a pacifier then give it to him before.
The Ped or nurses who give the kids shots nowadays are good and fast. Usually I'd DS gets one shot he doesn't notice. If it's two then usually the second one he cries. DS one I always brought a pacifier. DS doesn't take a paci, but hasn't cried too much Like I said... Harder on us. Now that my first son is 3 it's much worse. Oh the drama!

Re: Tips to ease pain of getting first shots?
I won't tell you how to ease the pain of the first shots for the baby since I don't think there really is a way (outside of having Tylenol or Motrin on hand in case they're not feeling well & ice for the hard lump they may have at the shot site).
I will tell you how to ease it for yourself. When you are holding your baby down & the shots happen, your baby is going to cry. Don't feel guilty about it. Feel grateful that a quick pinch followed by comforting hugs is better than the nights of worry that follow when your baby is sick, the sleepless nights of a baby in the hospital & every other fear that goes through you when your baby is sick. You'll still feel that when they're sick but you'll feel a little better knowing that your baby has built up some immunity towards diseases that are almost eradicated in this country. And when your baby is older & wants to traipse across Europe, you'll feel even a little better knowing that they've gotten their shots.

I've read that nursing moms can nurse while receiving shots.

My ped always offers the cold spray before the shots and i always say yes. I think it numbs it a bit.
