Tipping at Christening?

How much am I suppose to tip the maitre'd? I have no clue what is appropriate.

I think it depends on the size of your party and the amount you spend.

When we booked DS' Christening we were given a "recommended" amount for the tip. It was over a year ago, so I don't remember how much they said.

We are doing a buffet and they included a 20% gratuity in the bill. I am not giving anymore but will tip the bartender as we are paying the tab (not included in the catering).

We are having 155 people at a catering hall. We were told that our service and gratuity charge does not include the maitre'd. Should I just ask my sales person what she suggests or is that tacky?

Wow- that's bigger than my wedding!
Yes, I would ask- they should be able to suggest.
