Tile Help!!

My DH was going to surprise me for my birthday with getting granite countertop -- but we have to take off the counters for 7-10 days so the surprise would have been pretty hard to keep.

So - he took off the counters tonight and the back wall ripped bc they glued the counters against the wall -- so now we have to do a backsplash sooner than we thought.

Does anyone have anyone that they can recommend who does this? I want to get it done soon because I can't look at the walls like this.

Also - do you know if I should wait until the granite is installed before doing the backsplash?

If you have tile backsplash - where did you go for the tiles? Anywhere other than Home Depot or Lowe's?

Thanks!!

I dont have a recommendation but I can tell you they cant put the backsplash up untill the counters are in... We are re-doing our kitcehn as we speak and now have to wait for the counters to be in before the contractors finish...

BTW - Great b-day present....

Re: Tile Help!!

Thanks! I wasn't even going to think of doing a backsplash for a long time - as long as we have it all done by the holidays it's all good.

I know - I didn't think he wanted to spend the $$ right now on granite - he thought it was a waste---so I was totally shocked!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Tile Help!!

We actually are finally getting our backsplash installed next Sat-- our granite went in the beginning of Sept-- we have some exposed sheet rock- but, to be honest- I hate looking at it and I have gotten used to it-- I am still VERY excited to my backsplash in finally.

I would go to tile places and see what's around. IMO they will have a better selections at the places that specialize in it.

Re: Tile Help!!

we live in Hoboken- so we are using people in Jersey.. But my mom recently redid her kitchen, I can ask where she went. I recall her saying that there was a place in Bellmore-- where she got her granite, and then another place I think in Lyndenhurst.

FYI-- The people who installed our granite are installing our tile- We first saw tile we liked that they had but it was $13.95 a sq. foot Chat Icon . So- we looked around and found something comparable for about half the price-- but this tile was $9/ sq. foot in one place and $6/ sq. foot. So- my advice is to look around. Initially we got an all-in quote to do it for 1100-- and now it will cost us just about 800.

Re: Tile Help!!

So your place is installing even though you didn't get the tile through them?

About how many square feet did you have to buy?

Re: Tile Help!!

yes-- but we bought and installed our granite through them. The guy even admitted that the original tile we liked was insanely priced-- but, it was what it was..

We got about 35 sq. feet.

We did our granite first, then we did our backsplash.. I used Yale Stone in Glen Head.

Re: Tile Help!!

The granite guy came this morning and said we should have the counters installed first so that gives me some time to shop around for what I can do for the backsplash becuase I have no clue.

Re: Tile Help!!

I think that's a great idea.

I had a set design and combo in my head and the guy kept telling me to wait until the top was in. well, it's a good thing we did, because I ended up choosing a backsplash tile ENTIRELY different than what I had originally wanted.

I am just very impatient when it comes to these things and want everything done yesterday.

Good luck!!
