Thyroid Question...
Went to the Dr., not even for this issue, but she said my thyroid seemed "full" to go for a sonogram, I did and it came back with a nodule, Dr. is out until next Monday - Anyone ever have this and do they have to be removed?

Re: Thyroid Question...
Did you have any symptoms? I need to get blood work done too - so they never removed the nodule ?

my symptoms were basically Pms. I was moody, no sleeping, weight gain, agitated basically miserable. I begged my primary for months to check my thyroid. anytime I googled it, I had all the symptoms they had down.
the nodules turned out NOT to be nodules. it was from the Hashimotos. which basically destroys your thyroid.

Thyroid Question...
I've had sonos for nodules. I think they only send you for one if it's over a certain size, or if it seems to have gotten bigger over a certain amount of time. A biopsy may also be called for. I had to have one once bc it had seemed that a nodule had grown since the last soon. But then a few years later I went to an endocrinologist for my hypothyroidism and it turns out that all along it wasn't even nodules, it was hashimotos destroying my thyroid and leaving scar tissue, which was mistaken for nodules by my primary care doctor.

Same thing here! I was kind of mad actually when i found out it was never nodules because the biopsy was painful and that plus several sonos was inconvenient, and to know I was put thru all that for nothing and just to keep getting the wrong diagnosis. Glad I finally went to an endocrinilogist who knows what he's doing after wasting several years with a primary care doc who obviously didn't.

Re: Thyroid Question...
I did. I had the sonogram and they saw a nodule. Because of the size, they wanted to biopsy it. (If it had been very small, I think we may have just watched it for a bit.) They did a biopsy but could not tell from the results if it was cancerous. So they wanted to remove it and check it then. I also had, at that point, apparently a hyperactive thyroid. Because of this, they suggested removing the whole thyroid - otherwise it would have just been the one side with the nodule. Kind of think sometimes I wish I had not removed it all - I've gained a lot of weight. (But that could be due eating too much and not exercising enough and getting older. ) At any rate, it was not cancerous and my levels are kept in check with Synthroid so it's not too bad. HTH
