Thursday Gossip
Heath Ledger is working out the kinks in his rusty dating game.
The Aussie A-lister has been off the market for five years, monogamous first with Naomi Watts, then Michelle Williams, with whom he had a baby daughter after meeting on "Brokeback Mountain."
But at the Cinema Society screening of David Cronenberg's Russian mob flick "Eastern Promises" at the SoHo Grand Tuesday night, Heath eyeballed David Blaine's date, a waifish 6-foot blond rocking a bowler hat and a bohemian shirt and shorts. He waited for an opportunity to work his own magic, and it came when the portly prestidigitator started to do a coin trick for Moby.
Stepping out on the terrace, Heath told the model, "I don't drink at all," as they gazed at the view of the New York skyline.
"I don't drink either," she replied, finding common ground.
Cell phones were pulled out, and Heath, perhaps, got the Eastern European beauty's number — and just in time, because he then awkwardly blurted out the line, "I know a lot of people here in the city, so we could have some fun."
Not only that, but a Kate Bosworth look-alike suddenly showed up and took Heath's hand just as a clueless Blaine completed his heads and tails, flashed his iPhone wallpaper of a half-nude woman to Woody Harrelson and returned to his date.
Randomly, the real Kate Bosworth then strolled in, and rocker Gavin DeGraw was heard to ask, "Who is that?"
Asked later by a fellow guest if Heath had picked her up, the European babe snapped, "No one picks me up! I don't even know who that was."
And you thought they all got celebrity updates on Facebook.

At a SoHo party Thursday night, LL Cool J told us, "I'm not sure who'd win in a fight between Tommy Lee and Kid Rock," a reference to the rockers' brawl at the VMAs in Las Vegas Sunday. "You know what we should do? Let's pay- per-view the thing, and I'll even front the money." Before he left, LL tapped us on the shoulder to say how serious he was: "I'm so READY for this!"

It has to be the first time Carmen Electra didn't want her picture taken.
She "performed" at Tuesday's 2(x)ist Fashion Week show, posing on a hoop that was suspended a death-defying 2 feet off the catwalk.
But photographers covering the show were surprised with a contract insisting that they could not take pictures of her, on peril of a $25,000 fine. Sole rights for video were assigned to Wire Image, and for stills to Michael Simon - who just happens to be the brother of Electra's manager, Stephanie Simon.
Cozy, no?
"It's completely ridiculous," said veteran photographer Steve Sands. "Why would you cover the show if you can't take a picture of the only celebrity?"
Snappers were supposed to take pictures of just the underwear models who walked in the show.
"Carmen is known for being very gracious to photographers," Electra's rep responded. "It is not unusual to request approval over photos being shot of a performance, and we requested the [lensmen] who Carmen was most comfortable with. The media was invited backstage to interview and shoot Carmen after the performance."
You'll be happy to know she came down from the hoop unscathed.

What button do you press to get a Mac computer to pour beer on itself?
Justin Long, who plays one on TV commercials, tried it out as a stain-removal method around 4:30 a.m. yesterday in the East Village. The "Live Free or Die Hard" actor was feeling no pain at a table with friends at Second Ave. diner Veselka.
"He was so drunk, he spilled an entire bowl of soup across the table," says a witness. "They found a new, cleaner table, and moments later he did it again!"
A bystander helpfully suggested he could get the soup off his pants using beer.
"So he proceeded to pour beer down his leg until a friend talked him out of it," laughs our spy.
You'd never catch a PC doing that!

Diddy throws a great party - maybe too great.
A tipster who was enjoying the all-night bash at his suite in Las Vegas' Palms Hotel Fantasy Tower says Britney Spears had to be physically helped out at 7 a.m. - barely 12 hours before her disastrous VMAs performance.
"She couldn't stand," says the source.
"Diddy's people had to get her back to her room as discreetly as possible so nobody would see what state she was in."
A rep for Diddy insisted: "She stopped by the party for a while. He offered her a drink, which she refused; she drank water instead. She was not there until 7 a.m."
Just water. Riiiiight.

Hubby Marc Anthony arrived 2 1/2 hours early for Jennifer Lopez 's fashion presentation at Eye Beam. The crooner "spent most of the time in the bathroom smoking and speaking Spanish to his pals and bodyguards," says a snitch.

BAD-girl rapper Eve celebrated the completion of 45 days of sobriety by hitting the bar. The songstress was freed from her alcohol-monitoring anklet on Saturday morning, and by cocktail hour was hitting the MTV Video Music Awards swag suites at Caesars Palace. "When a cocktail waitress walked over to her with a bottle of Svedka, her eyes lit up," said a Page Six spy. "She got kind of nervous when they wanted her to take a photo, and wouldn't pose with the bottle - but then her assistant asked a promoter to send a case to her house."

HEATH Ledger isn't letting any grass grow under his feet. Just a week after announcing his split from Michelle Williams, Ledger has been squiring Danish pastry Helena Christensen all over town. Tuesday night, the two were at Wakiya "making out throughout the dinner," our spy said. Acting like a good boyfriend, Ledger even "held her bag for her as she did interviews." The two then went to the after-party for the movie "Eastern Promises" at the Soho Grand, and ended up at the Spotted Pig.

Britney Spears went ballistic at her hairdresser right before her MTV Video Music Awards debacle, according to a report in The London Sun.
The troubled performer, 25, flipped out when she saw her hairdo for the show -- and had to be given anti-depressants by her doctor.
Critics then blasted her performance of her new single Gimme More, calling it “bored” and “glazed” as she forgot dance moves and lip-out-of-synched the tune.
An MTV source told The Sun: “The scene in the dressing room before the show was one of absolute blind panic.
“She knew she hadn’t rehearsed enough and was going to mess up the whole show and possibly her career - then she saw her hairdo and it was the final straw.
“She went into a wild rage and started lashing out at everyone -- including her stylist.”
Desperate lackeys at the glitzy Las Vegas Palms Casino resort fetched her doctor, who had Brit pop the prescription pills.
The source said: “Britney took enough to floor an elephant. They calmed her down -- but were clearly too effective.”

Re: Thursday Gossip
Jessica Alba's boyfriend Cash Warren has allegedly cheated on her, just days after they got back together.
Cash reportedly had sex with 20-year-old model Vera Mishina - who he met at a New York baseball game - just two days after the actress and the film producer were seen patching things up in Malibu on August 26.
A friend of Vera said: "Vera had a job as a promotional model at the game and Cash was there with some friends.
"He was staring at her all night. When the game ended, Cash walked up to her. He was saying, 'You are so beautiful. You look so hot.'
"We all met up at a Times Square bar, and Cash went straight for Vera. It seemed like he really liked her. We were all drinking and hanging out, and Cash asked us to go to his room.
"They started making out as soon as we got into the room. He couldn't take his hands off her! The rest of us left, but Vera told me that she and Cash made love that night, and again the next morning.
"Afterwards he kept texting her, then we read that he and Jessica were back together. It really upset her. She felt so used."
When Jessica, 26, recently appeared on 'Late Show with David Letterman', she admitted she had once fallen in love at first sight.
When Letterman asked how that relationship turned out, she replied: "It's still trying to figure itself out."
The 'Sin City' actress - who reportedly called time on her and Cash's two-and-a-half year romance during an emotional telephone conversation in July - apparently dumped Cash after getting tired waiting for him to propose.
Reports suggested they had reunited after spending time together in Malibu two weeks ago.
They dined together at Taverna Tony on August 25 and the next day Jessica and Cash kissed and held hands over lunch at Beverly Hills' Le Pain Quotidien restaurant, before heading to Malibu's Nobu restaurant for dinner later that night.
Friends of the couple claimed they were "miserable" without each other and are visiting their favorite places in a bid to recapture the spark they had when they first began dating.
Jessica met Cash on the set of 'Fantastic Four' in 2005, in which Jessica starred and Cash worked as a director's assistant.
