Thumb sucking question..
DD is 13 weeks and found her left thumb around 10 weeks of age. Before that, she was putting her whole fist in her mouth which is why I say she "found" her thumb. She would suck on her thumb to fall asleep at times or to self settle. We were happy about it because she slept longer once she found her thumb. Now, she all of a sudden stopped with the left thumb but she keeps putting her right fist in her mouth as if trying to find her right thumb. She is also sleeping less because of this. I'm really hoping she goes back to sucking a thumb (whether it be the left again or the right).
Can anyone relate?
ETA- My DD hates pacifiers so getting her to take a pacifier instead isn't an option.

Can't relate, but 13w is super young. Just ride it out. Your baby will change 34923243098 more times.

Re: Thumb sucking question..
Sounds like my DD. She was the same way. Hated the pacifier. She would put her entire fist in her mouth. Went from whole fist to thumb and then her 4 fingers. She's now 4yrs old and still sucks on her 4 fingers. It's disgusting. I've tried it all and there was a point where she wasn't doing it as much but recently she's back at it again. Still does all 4 fingers. My advise to you is try to discourage her doing so, I know it's harder on you because of sleep and all and it's cute when they are little but it's pretty disgusting when they are order. The smell and all. Dentist said that her teeth are also being affected now so she will be getting braces later on when she gets older.
Right now they are discovering their body and finding their comfort zone. I wish she would have taken a pacifier and forced it on her. So much easier to get rid of that then the fingers.

I totally agree. I used to think it was great that my boys sucked their thumbs bc it soothed them and I didn't need to worry about having a pacifier around... I was wrong. DS is about to turn 4 and is having major problems giving it up... he even acknowledges he wants to stop but can't break the habit. I have to remind him constantly to get his thumb out of his mouth and then he gets frustrated. I hope he stops by the time his permanent teeth come in. I have a friend who sucked her thumb till she was 8 or 9 and her front teeth are all crooked so I'm concerned this is my kids' future (my 2 year old is also an avid thumb sucker who will probably have trouble quitting). I give my 3 month old a pacifier as much as he'll allow!
