Thoughts on a "Harnessed Booster Seat"
DH would love to have this seat for his little "sidekick". Just not sure about something like this compared to a regular convertible car seat. DS is 13 months. Not sure if this can be used rear-facing.

It starts at 22 lbs. it does not look like it would be rear facing.

It's a FF seat. A 13 months old should continue to ride RF for as long as possible or at least until 2 years old.

This is the same type of seat but is a convertible/booster. You need a convertible for a 13 month old.

This cannot be used rear facing and it is highly recommended that toddlers remain rear facing until at least 2.

Probably because a car seat can be used rear facing, and a booster seat cannot. A harnessed booster can also be used with a seatbelt after the child grows out of the harness. At least that's my thoughts on it!

it is so confusing, right. I think they wanted to differentiate it from a booster that uses the vehicles own seat belt.
My understanding is that you use an infant seat like the gecko snugride with a base until about seven or eight months old and rear facing. When the child outgrows the weight and or height of that seat you transition them to a convertible car seat like a britax boulevard and keep that seat rear facing at least until the child is two years old. You keep the child in this seat until they outgrow it which is about five and a half years old. Some kids will be able to fit in it longer and others shorter, but that is the average. After that you use a booster seat. There are two types, high back and backless. For most kids they still need the structure so high back will be safer for most kids who do not have the discipline to always keep themselves upright. A booster seat uses the cars own seatbelt. Some car seats like the Greco nautilus can concert from a convertible to a booster seat. E britax featured here is for an older child. It is like a high back booster but instead of using the cars seatbelt it still uses a five point harness like the convertible seat. You would still need a seat between the infant seat and the frontier seat.
Eta for the booster seat at least in nj they use the booster until age eight. But they also recommend using it until 4'9 and 80 lbs. my seven year old is 63 lbs and 4'4. He is not even seven and a half. I plan on keeping him in the booster until he is 4'9 which will likely be closer to nine than eight.

A convertible seat both rear faces and forward faces. A combination seat, like this one, is a harnessed forward facing seat and booster.

No, I would not use that seat for 13 month old. DS is 15 months and still RF-ing, and we have no plans to change that any time soon.

i wouldn't use that seat for a 13 month old. that one doesn't look like it goes rear facing. at that age, i think he should still be rear facing in a convertible seat. the seat in the link would be better for like a 3-6 year old. my DS turned 4 in november, and i just moved him into a seat like that one.
