Thoughts from this soon-to-be mom of 2

I haven't had much time to post lately since my laptop died and I am forced to use DH's horrid net book.

I'm getting close now. Less than a month to go and I really don't have myself together for this one.

Yeah we have a new house but it looks like the front lawn of Sanford and Son (on the INSIDE) with boxes and stuff everywhere. MAJORLY not toddler friendly or baby proofed. I cannot move well and there is no a/c where I need to be unpacking. I feel, physically drained and as if the baby is almost like a parasite on my body. Though it is only 2 years after I had Abby, I am now 40 and there is a big difference in how I feel versus the last time.

The "nursery" is sorta/kinda ready enough. It is painted and carpeted but that is about it. Abby is in there using the baby furniture until HER room is ready. We are having our furniture refinished for her. When it is done, she moves to a toddler bed and then the fun times begin as we do that and potty training at the same time.

Zippy has no bedding but a boat load of onesies. He has NOTHING to come home in and frankly I am trying to make peace with the fact that we will just not be spending the kind of money on him as we did on his sister when she was born. I wanted to get him a special "coming home" outfit, but the one I chose is $50 for basically a onesie. Did I really consider spending $50 on a piece of cotton? Oh my dear departed mother would have said "What do you need that for him to crap in for?"

And that of course leads me to a tear-filled evening I had the other night. Dad is gone 5 years. Mom is gone 2 years and it is still very raw. They did not know my children and they would have adored them. I am simply jealous of anyone who has had the opportunity to watch their children cultivate a closeness with their own parents. Take advantage of this. Marvel in this. Enjoy this. When Zippy has his bris, I will envision my father holding him alongside of my FIL and my mother setting up the bagels. lox, whitefish and sturgeon. I know they will be there. They are already proud. Thank G-d I have my siblings to remind me of this.

What gets me through every day are moments like this:

I hope my energy level increases soon. These are the last 3-4 weeks we have together just us girls!

Many hugs for you LeslieChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Having met Mama Goldi I could totally envision her saying that. Your post made me tear up a bit over here at work. It made me think how grateful I should be that I still have my parents with me.

I have lots of baby boy clothes.....let me know if you need some. There are quite a few onsies and outfits that Albert wasn't able to use since he is a moose.

We're moving next week and i haven't even packed....the house is still being worked on....you're not alone...the only thing is I'm not pregnant. I give you TONS of credit for getting into your new house with a toddler and pregnant and worried about un-packing. Just remember it's your house now and you have all the time in the world to un-pack Chat Icon

Thanks everyone. What we don't have, we don't have out of sheer laziness and lack of motivation. I truly appreciate your generous offers, but if there is someone you know who is truly in need, I'd rather see them take the clothing.

I'm so hormonal. I get like this from time to time. Thanks so much for the support.

Oh and Kathy, let's make plans soon.

Leslie, the expression on your face in that picture is...wonderful.

it's confident, sexy, and happy. and the expression on your daughters face is one of love and joy.

how could your parents not be proud? they are beaming for the heavens for you. and I am sure, channeling all of their love through Zippy right now!

btw, I have a ton of boy stuff I would be so happy to share with you if you would like. Chat Icon

Can you hire some help? At least temporarily to help you unpack? Maybe it'll work out and you can keep the person to help you clean and cook while you're on maternity leave...

Re: Thoughts from this soon-to-be mom of 2

You know that I totally get where you're coming from. We didn't have much done when Julian arrived. I was so tired and uncomfortable that when I came home, all I had time for was Aidan. there was no time to clean, put things away, etc as work just drained me (again, you KNOW ALL TOO WELL what my days were like at work). In the end it will all work out. Call me next week when school is over- I'll come over with Julian on a day when Aidan is in daycare and we'll tackle some stuff together.

In the end, it doesn't matter what is put away and what isn't. All Zippy needs is a place to sleep, some diapers and a few outfits and the love of his family. The rest is just gravy.

Enjoy these last few days as a family of 3. It is such a precious time and I can promise you that being a family of 4 is even more wonderful and full of love.

Re: Thoughts from this soon-to-be mom of 2

The end of pregnancy is hard and my second one was much harder than my first. My girls are 2 years apart and it can be a lot...and we didn't even have a move added into the mix!

Don't worry about the boxes for now, just keep the toddler safe. Don't stress about changing the toddler's room, bed, and potty training at the same time! That mixed with a brand new sibling is probably too much for her little self to handle all at once...it's also probably too much for you to handle with a new baby. This LO will come with his own personality and routines. You are going to be sleep deprived, healing from labor and delivery, and it is hot out. Somehow,in the beginning, the two kids never nap at the same time and if they do it is only for 15 minutes...

So, don't stress and enjoy your kids, it is what your parents would want you to do. It does get easier and seeing them together is a joy! Don't put too much pressure on yourself and don't worry about buying #2 stuff...he will be surrounded with love and that is what matters!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon my heart truly goes out to you!!
it must be SOOOOOOOOOO incredibly hard on your body and mind.
i really think the wind is knocked out of your sail b.c you have a toddler and you are dealing with so much!!
i know you said you are 2 years older and you feel a big difference, but remember you have a boat load of stresses this time around. and i am sure you are not able to take naps here and there or go to bed early like you did the first time around. your body is aching for serenity and for an organzied house!

we are looking to buy a house and all i can think about is how difficult it has been on you so this makes me want to wait till after the baby is born to buy a place...

just keep plowing through. one day at a time. all the baby needs is a place to sleep and few diapers on hand..
everything else will fall into place..
good luck!
