Those with Dogs ......
What are you doing with your Pet while your in the hospital? Will DH be home enough to care for them?
I am worried about the first day really...labor and all that, that it oculd extend into some time...
And most of our immediate family is going to insist on being at the hospital with us, so they cant help.
And I just cant see any of my friends driving to hang out with my dog?
Am I being too anxious over it?

Thankfully, our neighbor's daughter (college age) is the local dog walker. We've given her a key to the house as well as the times Luna will need to go out.
Luna will be lonely, but she'll be fine for a day or two.
We still haven't decided if DH will stay at the hospital overnight or not.....
ETA: This may be a time when immediate family needs to be told what's important to help YOU out....

I'm dropping Molly off at my mom's house right before we go to the hospital - she will stay there until I deliver and DH will pick her up on his way home (whenever he finally goes home)
I was worried about how long the labor would be - and I didn't want to have to worry about how long she would be in the house by herself. If she's at my mom's house - my parents are there and I don't have to really worry too much about it.
I do want her to be home when I get home with the baby though - so that's my plan as of now....hopefully it will work out that way!

I wish i could leave her at my mom's....but one...both Mom and MIL insist on being at the hospital the entire time....

Could you just leave her there until they come to see the baby - because by then DH won't be home that much later.
It also depends - is Abby used to being home alone (pre bedrest?) - I was worried bc Molly has never spent the night without someone in the house and I could just imagine worrying about her all night long - waiting for us to come home. I don't want to have to think about that while trying to have a baby!

lol - OK - well, is there a friend or a close relative that can just take her until you deliver Noah?
If there isn't anyone then I wouldn't worry about it honestly - I really think it hurts us more then it hurts them. They don't have any sense of time or how long we are gone for.

we plan on taking him out before we go to the hospital and then dh will have to let him out after the baby is born. w/a baby coming, im not too concerned about our dog - he'll be fine. if it extends into the next day he has a friend who can let the dog out. all of our family is out of town and they may or may not be able to get here on time

DH will take care of them.
They are crate trained so they can "last" for a while. We don't live too far from the hospital so he will be able to run back home and take care of them.

Scout will be staying with my cousin -- they used to take care of Ebony whenever we went away. We had him stay this past Tuesday night (my supposed induction) kind of as a dress rehearsal -- well we thought we'd be staying at thospital but turns out we didn't but we let him stay there overnight anyway.
Do you have a family member who will NOT insist on being at the hospital? At least not until you are ready for visitors? With that huge shower you had, someone should be able to step up.
I would have Abby stay overnight one night soon as a trial run.

Is Abby crate trained? Maggie went into her crate when we went to the hospital at 5:30 on Wednesday and DH went home at about 6am Thursday to nap (with her!) and then came back to the hopsital about 11am and stayed with me until after I had Christopher at 9:59pm
She did fine in her crate. On my full day in the hospital, DH brought home a baby blanket and let her sleep with it and she still sleeps with it in her crate. Maggie loves Christopher and Abby will love Noah.
My parents and SMIL also offered to run to my house to let her out and let her eat if things got dicey.

He was home alone and when the time came for it, DH went out to the waiting room, handed his parents the house keys and said "Please go feed the dog and let him out."
No one says no to the new parents (or parents to be) in the hospital!
It's like saying no to a bride on her wedding day!!

we had a friend come over after his shift to stay the night in case the labor went long (which, by the time I sent DH home, it was 11pm). He fed them dinner, etc, let them out.
This time around.....we can ask our neighbors to let them out in the yard and/or feed them unless some family comes before hand if we choose to induce.
What about a pet sitter or someone that comes a few times a day to feed/let them out/play?

I will probably leave Rocky with my BF who lives a few blocks down....hopefully she will be here when I go into labor....she scheduled a trip for the week after. If not, I will give my stepfather keys so that he can walk and feed him

DH took care of the dogs after the hospital visits, and ILs came over to walk them & make sure they had enough water & that the a/c was on for them.

I haven't gotten this far yet. Depending one when I go into labor though, and what's going on, we will try and bring him to doggie day care.
