Anyone have two or more kids??? We have a two bedroom and its actually the perfect size for me, dh and baby. But im just thinking when we want baby #2... will it be too tight? I dont see us being able to move before then. So anyone one have a 2 brm with 2 (or more) kids?

Re: Those with a small house

I dont but a good friend of mine had a 2 bedroom with 2 daughters. Luckily they were both girls so they were able to share a bedroom and still have a girly theme. She moved out when her youngest turned 2 and her oldest turned 4 because she just needed more room.

I do. Right now our newborn is in our room with us. We plan on having him share a room with his brother when he outgrows the bassinet.

We have a very small house, it's 3 bedrooms but VERY small. With 2 kids and toys, even smaller.

We had more room in our old apartment - 1.5 baths was great..ah the old days.

We're looking into expanding. I'm not sure when we'll get have an extra $100K for it.

Re: Those with a small house

If we have another boy it will a breeze. Baby would stay with us for first year. Then they would just share a room.

I have no idea what we will do if we have a girl.

Re: Those with a small house

we just moved from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment to save some money.

My girls (ages 2 and 1 years old) share a room. I don't find it to small. I was dreading the move but I love it. I actually find it easier to keep a clean house with just 1 less room!

We have a small house too. DD's bedroom is a nice size, as is our room. The other bedroom is now our office/guest room, and it's pretty small. We'll have to make it work with 2 kids, b/c unless we hit the lotto (and I don't even play Chat Icon ), we're here for a long time.

How funny, I was going to post something like this...We do. We have a 3 b/r (well technically 4), but 3 rooms are on the main floor, the "3rd" b/r is super small & has a door to the deck, so not really a good kids room, you know?
We redid out basement & have a guest room down there, but I can't see putting a child down there, esp. w/ a basement door to the outside & not too many windows, would never feel safe.Chat Icon
The 3 of us fit in this house now just fine, but add another & it's going to be TIGHT. This was our "starter" home, but we LOVE our neighborhood & no one ever seems to move from our community, so trying to get another house in this area is like finding a needle in a haystack!

We have a 2BR condo with a 12 yo girl and a newborn boy. We have him in our room right now, but will have to get a bigger place ASAP. He is so small and doesn't have that much stuff yet, and it is tight.

Re: Those with a small house

I have a 2 bedroom ranch and only one child right now. Our room is very big and we'd likely keep the baby in our room for maybe the first year. If it's a boy, he'll move in with his brother. If it's a girl, they may still move in together while they're very young. As they get older, we have a finished basement and I'd probably move DS down there.

Re: Those with a small house

We have a small ranch, it is a 3 bedroom but the 3rd room is used for a computer and a spare bed for guests. I think when we have another child we have a few options

1. Put mikayla in the "computer room" and have no guest bed

2. Move

3. Build a second level onto our home

we are leaning towards #2 but depending on the market, we are not opposed to adding another floor...my dh can do most of the work himself (he owns a home improvements company)

Re: Those with a small house

me me me

We have a small 2 bedroom and DC is due in March 2009. DS is already 17 months and king of that room

they will share a room until whenever we buy a house--which i really dont foresee for the next few years

DH and I severly try to limit the crap that comes in the house (toys etc)--and we have to be better at organizing. I think it could work but I may go crazy

if we have a girl we are making DS's room unisex. I think when they are that young it doesnt matter that they are a different sex

We have a small house and we will have our kids sharing a room while they are small, if they are two boys they can share for a few years, if its a boy and a girl, we will have to think of some options. We may have a loft conversion eventually to give us a master suite.

i have a 2 bedroom condo and when we have #2, DS and that baby will share a room. Our place is on the market as we want to buy a house, but no one is even lookingChat Icon and we dont want to put our plans on hold to TTC #2, so we will all just squeeze in and manage the best we can. My main concern is the toys as right now, my living room is the playroom and i cant imagine have toys for 2 in there

Thanks for all the responses! For those that said baby #2 is in your room for the first year... did you put a crib in your room? or use pnp ?? Just thinking dont see any room for a crib as our br is kinda tight as is.

we will use co-sleeper next to our bed (that's what we did with DS until we moved him into his crib/room at 3 months old). When we have our next one we will do the same.

Re: Those with a small house

Yes - small home owner here! I find it tight - but I know some people do it with less space, or in apartments - so I know we should be fine (right now we're still renovating so things are everywhere - I'm sure it'll "seem" larger when we find a home for everything).

Essentially, 2 yrs ago we bought a 4 bedroom 1 bath cape in the area we wanted (it was what we could afford in the area). We've since made it a 2 bedroom, 2 bath - making the large bedroom downstairs a formal dining room (but since I don't have furniture I just set it up as a big playroom now that Ryan needs more floor space), and the other small bedroom downstairs is our small den (but could be used as a bedroom if necessary as we kept the closet in there).

I hope to add another bedroom upstairs (over the garage or front dormer) before #2 but if we need to 2 kids could tightly fit in Ryan's room (and it's a neutral color so that's not an issue) or we could keep #2 in our room temporarily.

It won't work long term - but I'm sure we would be fine for another 3-4 yrs with the house as is.

Re: Those with a small house

I have a small 3 bedroom house. One of the bedrooms is on the 1st floor and we use that as a spare/play room. Our house is up on the market. Hopefully we will sell before we have another baby. If not, we will make due with the 2 bedrooms and have the kids share a room. HECK I shared a room with my 2 sisters for 23 years!!Chat Icon
