Those with 3 kids and smaller cars - issues fitting car seats!

We are preparing for baby #3 arrival. I have a mini-van as our primary car so we are good with the car seat situation.

The problem is DH's car is a Chevy Equinox. We were trying to set up the backseat with the infant base, booster(5 y/0) & a britax car seat (3 y/o) and it doesn't fit! How do people fit 3 seats in smaller cars with one row?

Do they sell small boosters or car seats that you recommend? Any tips - thanks!

Britax seats are big, as are some boosters!! They sell a seat online at walmart.com the Harmony Defender that is the narrowest combination seat on the market. It is a foward facing harness seat until 65 pounds, then it converts to a high back booster and then a low back booster. The seat is good for 10 years before expiring.

What booster seat do you have? Harmony has a high back booster that converts to a no back booster that is 17" as well.

The britax roundabout 55 has a smaller footprint.

That seat has a 19" seating width. As opposed to 17" for the Defender. The R55 also only harnesses to 55 pounds and does not convert to a booster. I was thinking if she wanted to buy a new seat that would fit in both cars then a combination seat would be better.

I'm having the same issue. I have 2 britax marathons in both my trucks. A infant seat is def not fitting with those in my 4runner but I have a ridge line pickup they may work. But I was looking to buy the dinio radian seats. They are narrower and got great ratings. They are expensive but I cannot get a new truck til next yr (getting a suburban)

We have a ford edge. Back seats not huge. We had to go out and buy two new car seats. We bought two Radian Dion convertible seats and a graco infant seat. Everything fit fine. We where so happy since we have a year left on our lease.

I have a Prius and fit 3 across. I had a snugride, Radiant Diono and a Graco turbobooster.

Now that DS is out of the infant carrier I have two Radiants and a turbobooster. The Radiant is $$ but we needed narrow seats and it goes from 5lbs to 100lbs so I will never have to buy another seat again.

What if you install the infant seat without the base in your husbands car?

Radian seats are great but they are $$$ and if you are only going to be using it foward facing you arent getting the most "bang for your buck"

Their upper limits for booster weight use are usually irrelevant because unfortunately a lot of times they are outgrown by height before that so you will more then likely need to buy a dedicated booster at some point.

Yeah but when your child isn't old enough for a booster yet and you need three seats across, these seats are the best. They are expensive but it was cheaper to buy two of these then try to get out of my lease a year early. Couldn't find anything else on the market that would fit.

I'm having the same issue with DH's car. He drives a Hyundai Santa Fe and the back seat is not very big. We can not fit the infant seat base with a Graco My Ride 55 and a Graco low back booster. Not sure if you're considering a regular booster seat, but I think I'm going to get this one.

You can also fit 3 combi coccorros across, doesn't necessarily mean that it is the best fit for each individual.

Harmony Defender is an excellent choice for a FF child, inexpensive and will last as a higher weight harness and booster. Radians can be a great choice for higher weight RF but they're super heavy and expensive.

But.

Will they work for you in your car and with your budget? I'd head over to Car-seat.org and csftl.org and post with your child's weights/ages, budget and vehicle and see what the suggestions are.

You really can't make a blanket "these are the best" statement because all cars, budgets, and situations are unique.
