Those who use/used white noise for sleeping
When did you/will you stop using it? We have used this with Kieran since the beginning, and I think it has really contributed to his great sleeping. We used to use a white noise CD and put it on repeat. Since the warmer weather started, we put an AC in his window and have just used that as the white noise. Since then, the CD player broke. Now that the weather is cooling off, I know we can't use the AC much longer. So my question is- should we purchase a white noise machine or another CD player (this we would be able to use anyway, so maybe not a bad idea), or should we just stop using the white noise now and see how that goes? Kieran is almost 8 months old. My nephew will be 3 in November and still sleeps with white noise, but that's the only reference I have to go by- what does everyone else do?? TIA!

Re: Those who use/used white noise for sleeping
we still use our for DD and she is 2. We still use it because her room is close to the main area of the house and it is noisy so i dont want her to wake up from hearing us. We didn't use it this summer because of the AC but we will put it back on soon. we bought it at BRU and it has a few different white noises to choose from. i think it was around $20. it's nothing fancy but does the job.

Thanks- and it just runs all night? Or is it like on a timer? We have the Sleep Sheep too which I love, but I hate that you can't just leave it on. We have 2 dogs also and they have woken him up with their barking, running, wrestling, etc lol.

Re: Those who use/used white noise for sleeping
Mason is 15.5 months and we have the sound machine. He sleeps sooo much better with it. The thing broke and he actually had trouble sleeping. He's a light sleeper so the sound drowns out everything. Plus, we moved to a new house with hardwood floors upstairs. I like that the music blocks the sound when I'm trying to walk out of the room and he can't hear the floor creaking.
Still not sure when we'll stop

DD will probably be in her teens and still using the sound machine. lol She doesn't sleep soundly enough to not use it (she's 15.5 months old). Plus our house is small so it's not like she's on the other side of the house away from all the noise... the sound machine helps to mask all that.

Re: Those who use/used white noise for sleeping
So funny you posted this. DH asked me last night when we would stop using it, and I think I responded with..."when she leaves for college!"
I see no harm in using it. I even know some adults who use white noise machines. It isn't a hassle and it's not like a pacifier they can lose or a swaddle they can break out of that would wake them up. I plan on using it for quite some time!

My boys will proably be going to college with theirs....honestly have no clue. My sons are 5.5 and 3 and still using it. I recently slightly lowered the volume...I do at times wonder if ti has any long term effect on hearing. But right now it drowns out morning noise from DH or I and the younger one gets up earlier, it keeps the older one sleeping later which he needs.

Re: Those who use/used white noise for sleeping
SO funny I was thinking the same thing. I've used soothing music since DS was a baby then the CD player broke and I just used the air conditioning. The past 2 nights I haven't used anything and it seems like he's been waking up in the middle of the night "complaining" not crying but just being a little scootchy....I was thinking about putting in the humidifier in his room to see if that helps.

Re: Those who use/used white noise for sleeping
We had the same problem last summer. We bought one from amazon, marpac. It sounds like a fan and we run it all night. Prior to that, we used the CD on repeat as well, but that started to skip and I figured this was a good investment. DS1 is 2yo and still uses it. We bought another one when we had DS2. DH wakes early for work and our floors creak so I like to have something cover the sound. We have been really happy with them!

Re: Those who use/used white noise for sleeping
DS didnt need one after he was probably 1 year old but we kept it because we lived in the city and were always afraid a loud noise would wake him. At 3, we keep it so that his baby sister doesnt wake him

Re: Those who use/used white noise for sleeping
Glad you posted this also. DD is almost one and I put the AC on most nights so that she doesn't hear us up and about. I am thinking of getting a white noise machine for her and I'm glad that I'm not crazy!
