Those who transitioned from Similac Sensitive to Milk

Kaydyn has been on Similac Sensitive since she was 2 weeks old. She has done wonderful on it. When we tried to transition to milk last week she developed a horrible diaper rash.

Did anyone's DC have trouble transitioning to milk after being on Similac Sensitive? TIA!

Re: Those who transitioned from Similac Sensitive to Milk

this is a good question and I have been wondering this myself since I have about a month left for my DD and she is on similac sensitive. can I ask how you transitioned? did you mix regular milk with her bottle and how soon, or did you just go full out milk?

At the suggestion of our ped we did 1oz of milk in each bottle. We did this for one day and by the end of the day she had developed a rash so we stopped the milk and went back to formula.

We tried yogurt and she got a rash. When I talked to the ped he said to keep trying milk, but she gets a rash every time. He said it's not an allergy, but I wanted to see if anyone else had trouble with lactose items when their DC was on Simliac Sensitive b/c that's what I think it is.

if not an allergy, then what is it??? I'm not saying she'll have this forever, she will probably grow out of it, but for now, it seems that could be the problem. How about Soy Milk?

FYI, my cousin's little one had the same problem, but she would break out in hives...definite reaction. She is now four and no problems anymore...

Now I'm worried cause DD is on Sensitive too...I wonder if I should try switch to Advance when she gets a little older and see her reaction...

Good luck with everything!!!

Thanks...he said if it was an allergy then she would develop hives or a rash over her entire body. Basically he said she's not digesting the lactose properly and he said that if we keep giving it to her hopefully her body will adjust. I just can't keep putting her through the horrible diaper rashes so I think we're going to try Soy Milk or Lactaid Milk.

DS was on Similac Sensitive when he was very young, and we switched to Gentlease later, mainly because there wasn't as much added sugar in it. He has had no signs of lactose intolerance or milk allergy, and he has been drinking milk straight (no formula) for well over a month now.

I did notice he was sort of gassy in the beginning, but I can't even say he is especially gassy anymore.

If it makes you feel any better, when my 4 year old DD was little and had ANYTHING with tomatoes she had the same reaction as your DD - the WORST diaper rash...now, she's fine (but then again, doesn't wear a diaper, but doesn't have any sort of reaction)...I think it's their body adjusting, but I understand you hate to see her in pain!!!!
