Those who registered for Summer Infant Best View Monitor

What are you doing? They recalled them and they are off of my registry. I am assuming that BBB took them off of the shelves until they put the warning labels on them and placement instructions. Are you registering for a different monitor all together or are you waiting for them to come back? These monitors got the best reviews and all of the other reviews that I am seeing aren't so great so i am torn.
If you are registering for a different video monitor, which one are you registering for? TIA!

I didn't realize that one was part of the recallChat Icon

I just checked my registry and its still on there but it is now only available in store Chat Icon

Did u get an email or some sort of notification? My shower isn't until May so im gonna wait and see what happens. My friend has this one and highly recommends its.

What I don't get is why would they only pull the Summer Infant ones if all monitors have chords???

Re: Those who registered for Summer Infant Best View Monitor

There was an instance where 2 children choked to death with this monitor. The monitor was placed on the crib and the child pulled it off and the cord wrapped around their neck. So they are putting warning labels on the monitor and showing parents where to properly place it so that the child can not reach it. I didn't get an email, but on my BBB registry it isn't even coming up on the website any longer. I did a lot of research on monitors and this got the best reviews that I have seen. I think I am going to hold out as well and see what happens.

My shower is in three weeks, So I put another similarly priced (but poorer reviews) on my registry and I plan on either returning it if it's awful or keeping that one if it works.

Since the recall is more for consumer education than for a defect, I'm going to still get it. I'm just going to be very careful about where I put it and making sure the cord isn't anywhere Nugget can get at it.

I definitely want it as well. I am just hoping that they put them back on the shelves before.

Re: Those who registered for Summer Infant Best View Monitor

I was thinking it might be a good idea to tape down the chord really tight regardless of which monitor it is. It might not look very pretty but it would make it that much harder for a baby to get hold of it and plus chances are if it starts to come undone you would hear it on the monitor.

Re: Those who registered for Summer Infant Best View Monitor

I registered for the Summer Infant Day and Night baby monitor set, and it's not even on the BBB website anymore, and is showing up as not available on my registry. I can't recall if it was a corded unit or not. Not for nothing, it was a little stupid to mount a corded baby monitor on to the crib within reach IMO.

This one was definitely on Babies R Us earlier. Not sure if you registered there too

Yeah for a boatload more money! Chat Icon I think the difference was 139.99 at BBB vs. 199.99 at BRU. It seems BBB pretty much got rid of the whole line.

Re: Those who registered for Summer Infant Best View Monitor

We still kept it, the picture and sound are so clear on this monitor! We just mounted it on the wall, and ran the wire up the side of the moulding, so it's hidden. The camera is no where near the crib now. Not worried about it at all. I'll post a pic

I'm keeping mine's, it's not an actual product defect. They're just revising the instructions and warning labels.

I should add that I although I added another one, I really hope to be able to go back and get the Summer View one. It got much better reviews. I wasn't planning on putting it anywhere near the baby's crib but on the bookshelf across from the crib so I don't see the issue. I pretty much just added another one so I could return it for the Summer one if it comes back in stock before the baby gets here.

We have the recalled monitor and continue to use it, even though DS is 3 1/2. It is the same as anything: Don't put cords or strings or anything long near the crib. Babies have long arms and can grab anything, even as newborns. We placed the monitor on a shelf, far from his crib. And every time we have changed his bed to toddler, to twin we have changed the shelf it goes on.

The defect is not on the product itself. It's like the 'recall' on the bumbo seat a few years back that warned parents not to put them on counterops and high places. It's all common sense.

Just an FYI - the recall is not because the product has a defect, it's just to put a warning on the it to not place the wires next to the crib.

There is nothing wrong with the actual monitor itself.

I actually happened to go onto their website today after reading an article the other day in Newsday about this. The PP is correct...There is no recall, as there is nothing wrong with the actual monitors. However, after 7 related cases (2 involving Summer brand monitors) where babies pulled the monitors into their cribs and get entangled in the cords (causing strangulation) the company is allowing people to exchange their existing ones for newer ones with better warning label. They are recommending that people keep the monitors at least 3 feet from the crib. If you have an existing Summer monitor and threw out the wall mount I think they're offering you the option to get a replacement for free. There's nothing wrong with the monitor...so if you have all of the parts and can get it further away from the crib there's no sense in returning it.
