Those who moved with pets

What did you do while you were actually moving? (as in, current home being emptied, truck loaded, etc)

I have two cats and I'm trying to decide what to do with them for the day! Either keep them here while everything is moving out, or bring them to my parent's for the day Chat Icon but they HATE moving around and it's so hard to get them in and out of the cage Chat Icon

Anyone with experience have some suggestions?!

Re: Those who moved with pets

we left them at my dads when we moved. It made it a lot easier getting stuff in and out.

Re: Those who moved with pets

I moved with my cat AND my parents, so leaving him was not an option. I put him in his carrier with food and water and left him on top of a table so that he could see what was going on, but was sheltered from the chaos.

I brought him over to the new pace, then let hom out for awhile until the movers came then put him back in the carrier.

Best bet would be to bring yours to your parents.

Re: Those who moved with pets

we brought our kitty to my moms. i agree with the other ladies...if you can a drop off is easiest or locking in a room for a few hours! naboo would be furious with that and meow at the door though!

Re: Those who moved with pets

We were moving out of my moms house, so bringing the dog there wasn't an option. I cleared out the bathroom and put a rug down in there for him while we moved everything out.......then I put him in one of the rooms here while everything came in.

Re: Those who moved with pets

I have moved many many times with my pets and most of my moves were from state to state. When emptying the house we would lock them in the bathroom with their food, water and litter. When moving into the house we did the same thing. The cats were always the first to be taken care of. As for our dogs, we would tie them up in the yard or put them in a room that had just been emptied.

I either put her in the bathroom with blankets to hide under or a bedroom that I was able to empty before anyone got to my home.

Re: Those who moved with pets

we have a dog

we moved locally twice - kept her locked up in a room while we moved everything out and then brought her to the new place when we were ready to unpack

we moved across the country once - same thing, locked her up in a room while we loaded the u-haul...once we were ready to drive away we got her packed and put her in the truck with us...

with cats i would think it's a little harder b/c they can jump over a gate...but if it's not for too long i would think they should be okay crated...
