Those who have taken their own Holiday pics..help a novice

I want to try to take my own holiday pics because, well, I am busy and don't think I can get my act together to go someplace.

We have a really nice fireplace, and I figured I could get pointsettas? Should I hang stockings? What do you sit DC in? DS can sit up, but not for a long period of time....did you edit your pictures?

TIA! Any other suggestions welcome too!!

pillows covered with a blanket? Have them lay on their bellies? In a wagon?

Poinsettas would look nice and hang some stockings. Although, you will probably want to zoom in a bit so you might not even see all of that in the background. You could do a fireplace shot as a family shot and maybe make a collage type greeting card with several pics?

I did that last year. I bought really cheap fake poinsettas which looked real in the pictures, lit the fire and wrapped empty boxes in Christmas paper. I also found plastic ornaments and let her play with them. I also had christmas stuffed animals too for her to play with.

You could put dc on his/her belly on a table top in front of the tree. Squat down at eye level to get your photo. If you put him/her on his belly in front of the tree, you'll only get the underside of the tree.

I zoom in a lot for photos, because I"d rather the focus be on the baby than the scenary.

I love the idea of the fireplace and poinsettias! Definitely put the stockings too. I hope you share!

I'm actually a big fan of outdoor photos -- you have better lighting and beautiful natural backgrounds -- especially right now with the leaves! All of my best frameable/card worthy pictures have been taken outside -- anything I do inside seems homemade.

Of course if you are looking for homemade then ignore me and stay warm hehe.

You could put a nice white blanket down and put the boppy or a pillow underneath the blanket to prop him up.

Pointsettas would be nice...you could have some christmas lights in the background too.

You could have him hold an ornament.

Get a stocking that's big enough for him to fit in...so he could sit up with his legs in the stocking.

OR, you could place your christmas tree right next to the fireplace (for picture sake) and take pics of your son with those two things in the background. That would look nice!

Im doing my own..here is my plan..

I have one of those "all season" sunrooms off the back of my house. Im going to take advantage of the natural light out there. Im going to buy a really large piece of fabric or cheap curtains to use as a backdrop. Then just do some seasonal prop things with him..Maybe drape his bouncey seat or the Bumbo in plaid so he can sit...

If you take pictures inside try and take advantage of natural light..and set your ISO settings to high or 800+...Im reading PHOTOGRAPHY FOR DUMMIES right now and that was there suggestion. They also said to turn off the red eye option. I doesnt work all that great and you might miss that important shot....
