Those who have had Mastitis infections...
I have had multiple Mastitis infections and DS is just over 3 weeks old.
When he gets a bottle of my breast milk, he screams in pain and completely incosoloable. I give him mylicon, but that doesn't seem to help him. He's like this for the two hours leading up to his next feed, which is formula since the multiple infections have drastically cut my supply.
I've read that the antibiotics are being shared via the breast milk and can cause discomfort in the baby.
Should I pump and dump?
Any recommendations? I hate seeing my son in such pain.

There are antibiotics that can be given for mastitis that are safe for bfeeding. Starts with a "D" but I cannot remember which one it was. I had to take it as well. Dr told me no need to pump and dump.
Why is he crying in pain from a bottle?

Why is he crying in pain from a bottle?
Originally, I was on the safe antibiotic (dicloxacillin) with my first infection, but since the infection is not clearing up and getting worse, they changed the prescription to cephalexin. It's a stronger, more potent antibiotic to clear the infection. My OB said I could continue to pump to give DS breast milk, but I've noticed that since I started this new drug, DS starts to scream about 5-10 minutes after the bottle ends. His stomach gets hard, he turns bright red and goes into the fetal position and stays that way as he cries.

Our ped said that around 3 weeks is when gassiness can start so maybe it's not from the antibiotic but from drinking from a bottle?

was thinking this. or maybe its from going back and forth between BM and formula? Are you nursing at all? If so, I would just nurse all day to increase your supply.

I'm not sure about the problem with your son but wanted to say I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, mastitis was the WORST! I felt like I had the flu!! Hang in there

It can cause stomach upset in infants. My SIL was told to pump and dump. She gave whatever she had frozen and formula to supplement for the week. She was told she could start providing fresh milk bottles 24 hours after she took her last dose.
