Those that ARE doing the flu shot for infants - question
If you don't believe in vaccinations, I respect your wishes for your child, no offense but no response is necessary.
I do want to ask those that do feel that the benefits outweigh the risks - DD will be 6 months in November... one of the docs at my Pediatrician's office recommended a version of the flu shot safe for those 6 to I believe it was 36 months. No preservatives, etc. Today DH brought DD in (I had a meeting with my mid-year review with my manager so I couldn't make it) and saw a different doc at the same practice and asked about the shot, this doctor said DD should have 2 separate flu vaccines at separated intervals (will not be at the same time). I was just curious to know if anyone knew about this, had done it or know why it should be done this way. I thought it was just one shot in the fall like adults. I'm going to schedule her regular 5 month vaccines anyway on Monday and even though this last doc had told DH he'd like to be the one to treat DD regularly, I want to make the next vaccines with the one I like most in the office. Not to say I don't like this one - there are 5 in the office, all the male docs there are great, the female docs I don't like as much (one I would change any well visit appointment to avoid her). Anyway, just curious.

Re: Those that ARE doing the flu shot for infants - question
It's normal to have 2 shots at different times for the flu vaccine at that age. DD did last year. This year at 18 months she had one shot.
ETA, I think it was like 3 or 4 weeks apart. I don't recall.

DS will also be 6 months in November. He will go for his first in early November, the second one the week after Thanksgiving.

Re: Those that ARE doing the flu shot for infants - question
DS gets his first flu shot on 10/28. A month after that he gets a booster shot. I believe that might just be applicable for the first one.

Re: Those that ARE doing the flu shot for infants - question
Thank you all SO much, this was helpful to know that this is the normal course for those doing it. Sorry if I sounded combative regarding not wanting responses of those not doing it, but I didn't want a whole debate over shots and the real question get lost in personal opinions. Unfortunately, I've asked several questions on this site that ended up with judgemental and often unsubstantiated answers that have nothing to do with the original question.
Thanks again!!

I work in a ped's office. The booster is only necessary the first time a child (or anyone) gets the flu shot. From then on, it's just one a year.

Re: Those that ARE doing the flu shot for infants - question
DS is 6 months and he just got the first flu shot today. He gets the second one next month even though he's not scheduled for a well visit until the following month. It's normal for babies to get the flu shot two months in a row to "make sure it sticks". And so far so good- no reactions to it!

This is what I was told. Do you work in my ped's office? Now that my baby had a reaction to egg during the time in between the 2 shots, we have to hold off on the 2nd shot to make sure he does not have an egg allergy. I believe that the flu shot is not effective the first time unless we also get the booster.

Re: Those that ARE doing the flu shot for infants - question
I got one for DD last year b.c she was taking a lot of classes even though she was not in daycare. Yes the first time they get the flu shot it is done in 2 doses - in the future they only get one shot. The doses are 30 days apart. My ped only carries the thimerisol free version. They don't do it for those younger than 6 months though.
