My peds told me that over feeding could be a cause of spitting up, but so can a few other things.. gassy, too much air from bottle.

eta: also if it constantly happens could be reflux.

Could it be something your eating? See if you notice a common ingredient.

Mine told me the same. I usually stop feeding him if I burp him during a feeding and he spits up. DS just recently started the spit up phase - it's not constant, but more often. My ped said they can develop reflux and that I should keep him upright for 40-minutes after a feeding (which I think is nearly impossible).

Not necessarily. It could just be that an air bubble came up and took some milk with it. DD is a spitter too and my ped always reminds that the esophagus is really short and sometimes those air bubbles can be really big so it brings up the milk easily. If your DC isn't in pain and it isn't really large amounts, I wouldn't worry.

I agree with the previous posters and I also wanted to add that a newborn's digestive system is not fully developed yet so this is another cause for spit up. Here an article on spitting up from babycenter.com:

DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, it's normal for some kids to spit up a little after they eat, as long as it doesn't happen many times a day and baby isn't crying from pain, 2-3 a day is ok, my DD stopped spitting up when she started solids.
