This has to stop

I'm in disbelief of what I'm reading here.

Please remember that you are all members of our larger collective communities and this is turning very ugly.

We all need to think long and hard about how we are acting both online and in real life. It doesn't matter what side you are on but many people here are showing their true colors and it's not pretty. You're proving everyone right.

Trump supporter - you won, what more do you want ? Beating us down and continuing the nastiness is exactly what we tried to stop.

Clinton supporter - were better than this and we have to get it together and stop going back and forth. Our futures depend on it. I know a lot of us are broken but we have to dig deep and find resolve and try our best to fight back. When they go low we go high.

I am ashamed of all of you.

I think that right now a lot of people are speaking out of strong emotion and fear. I think that tends to obscure the way we see things. Frankly, there will always be haters in this country and some people are using the Trump election to show their true colors. I actually think in the long run that will end up being a good thing - better to have it out in the open than have it hiding and festering. I think in the over the long term Trump will not support hatred and discrimination. I also think that the overwhelming majority of Trump supporters do not support hatred, racism and discrimination and will not blindly follow a leader that does support those things if he proves me wrong. You have to just have faith in humanity. You can drive yourself crazy worrying about what might happen but the fact of the matter is that it's essentially out of everyone's control now and you just have to take it day by day. You can worry yourself sick about it, but what good is it going to do you? That's just my take on it as someone who really didn't support either of them!

I think if you peruse the threads, you'll see that while many agree with your points, you're not the only one going high, and you have no need to be ashamed of us all.

Intelligent discussion shouldn't have to stop. It's healthy and interesting, and what this country is about.

The insults and ad hominem attacks are another thing, but the minority of people who rely on those have no real arguments or informed opinions, so they rely on attacks instead. Don't mind 'em.
