Thinking ahead - 1st bday question

DS will be one in the end of May. We will be having a party at our house. We have a nice size backyard and a nice size above ground pool. There aren't many children coming. Do I have to get some sort of entertainment for the kids that are coming? My sister has always said yes so the kids have something to do. Between the pool and our little swingset is that enough? Is it my responsiblity to entertain the kids there??

Thinking ahead - 1st bday question

i had 17 kids ranging from 5 mos to 12 and i gave them their own table with crayons and coloring books and candy! They actually ended up using plates, cups and bowls to make spaceships by the end of the party lol...

you have a pool i think thats enough entertainment!

Re: Thinking ahead - 1st bday question

I have been having backyard birthday parties for the past 5 years (9 of them). I have never hired entertainment. We have a swingset and put some toys out in the backyard and let kids be kids :) I set up one craft activity, do a pinata, and a pin the tail on the donkey game
My sons 5th birthday all the kids were digging for bugs :)

Thinking ahead - 1st bday question

If you aren't having a lot of kids I wouldn't worry about it. How old are the kids? We are having a birthday party in a park and I think I'm just going to get a bunch of coloring books and crayons and some other crafty things and put them in a bin for the kids to play with when they aren't on the playground. I don't think you need to go crazy. It sounds like you have enough.

Thinking ahead - 1st bday question

Kids entertain themselves, especially if there is a pool. I would go to the dollar store (or target dollar spot) and grab a bunch of outdoor toys (hula hoops, beach balls, bubbles, pool floats, etc). I usually do this when I have an outdoor bbq and the kids always find a way to keep themselves busy.

the pool is the entertainment.

we don't have a pool directly in the backyard (its a community one) so now i feel like i have to do something else. but if i owned the pool- no way would i hire extra entertainment. This is a first birthday!!! your sister may care but the kids certainly dont...

Re: Thinking ahead - 1st bday question

My ds 1st birthday will be in july and I was thinking the same thing. There wont be many children so I really didnt feel it was necessary for formal entertainment. I dont think I will be having it.
