Thinking about switching OBs

I am a little annoyed right now. Back on 3/4 I had my first OB appointment. The "nurse" took about 8 vials of blood and I asked is one of them to test my progesterone and she said yes. Last week I was suppose to begin weaning off and last Saturday completely stop. When I called my OB on Friday for my test results I was told by the se "nurse" when I asked for my progesterone that they didn't test for my progesterone. I then said to her "you told me one of those hundreds of vials of blood was for my progesterone "she then said when my OB comes in she will ask if I can come in for a progesterone check.

She calls back like 2 hours later and said the doctor said" I have to contact me RE for a progesterone check they don't do it at that office". Im thinking WTF. I called my RE and the nurse was shocked that they wouldn't check my progesterone. She put my RE on the line who explained that the corpus luteum begins producing the progesterone at 8 weeks then the placenta takes over at 10 and my levels were great my last visit when I was released so its ok that Friday was my last dose!

I'm thinking even so that's besides the point if my OBs office is going to lie about testing for something and don't and that was only my first visit why should I trust them for the next 29 weeks? Am I overreacting? I'm suppose to go back next week Thursday but I made an appointment with my old OB/GYN next Wednesday as I ponder what I should do? What would you do?

Sorry so long.

No. Knowing who it is, I already changed mine. I'm now going to a place on northern blvd in Manhasset. The wait there is insane and I can't do that down the line. They seem really disorganized and for a regular checkup ok but not this. I agree. They should check it especially since you were on medication for it. I have my first appt Thursday at this new place and will let you know how it goes Chat Icon
Sorry they are making you run around!!!

Sorry that happened to you! They didn't code my appointment correctly as a first OB! That should have been a sign right there. I definitely feel better about my decision to switch. Now I just have to get a copy of my BW results to take to the new OB.

Re: Thinking about switching OBs

I think you need to be absolutely comfortable with the doctor who will be delivering your baby and if you're not, you should get out NOW rather waiting for another issue to arise.

I went to a consult with a new OB a few weeks ago and when I got home, I cried. He was such a creep but the worst part of my consult is when he alluded to not believing me that my first pregnancy was really my first. We had a loss in the 2nd trimester and he said he never saw those complications in a first pregnancy and said he just had hard time believing that was my first and asked what my peri thought of this being my first pregnancy. He hounded me as though I was a liar and it felt extremely uncomfortable. He kept going on and on about it ... wouldn't let it go - because I'm pregnant now and at a new OB consult but what I REALLY want to be talking about is my baby who died 2 1/2 years ago. Chat Icon He wouldn't stop ... and kept telling me how he usually sees those complications after a person has scarring from multiple losses and uterine surgeries - which was not my criteria THEN but is NOW. The whole appointment was just uncomfortable because that was just one of a few other experiences there that day and I got my butt out of that practice real fast. I'm much happier where I am now!! It's a massive relief! Do yourself a favor and switch now if you need to, don't wait!

Omg!! That is so unprofessional of him! What an ass! I'm glad you left too! I'm happy I am switching because I don't need any added stress.

Re: Thinking about switching OBs

Can you FM who the Dr is so I can avoid? I know we were looking for OB's in the same area and I'm hoping it's not the office I mentioned to you in Lynbrook!

It sounds very scary at the OB office, however the best thing to do is to make sure that you are happy with your OB/GYN because this person is playing a very important role in you and your baby lives.

Every doctor is not the same there are some good ones, so just keep looking.
I am sorry for your loss but is happy that you are expecting now. i can't wait to hear your success story. Congratulations!!! There is success after a loss, you are a perfect example and if you can overcome the odds and become pregnant you most certainly can overcomes the odds in finding a great OB/GyN that you feel a connection with.
