Things to do in the Berkshires

Other than going to Tanglewood, which is near where we're staying, we don't have any set plans for our trip to the Berkshires. We're going with DH's family and will have a 4 year old and DS (an infant) with us. Are there any family friendly activities you recommend doing? What about some relatively easy hikes? We have a jogging stroller for the carriage trails and we'll have a hiking backpack for DS.

We're trading babysitting nights so DH and I will have at least one night to go out by ourselves. Are there any restaurants you recommend?

Re: Things to do in the Berkshires

I am from the Berkshires originally, so here are some suggestions!

family stuff:

1) Shaker Village in Pittsfield

2) Hiking at Monument Mountain , might not be great for stollers but definitely ok for kids, used to go hiking with day camp

3) Walking around downtown Great Barrington and Lenox - lots of good stores, boutiques, kids stores, ice cream parlors, etc.

4) Some of the ski slopes turn into fun summer places. Check out Butternut, not sure what they do, but I know that Bousquet (sp?) has a mini-water park, go karts, etc.

5) North Adams area (near Williams college) has lots of museums.

6) If it rains, go the Pittsfield Mall for a movie theatre and indoor walking around (although mall is actually in Lanesborough)

Good restuarants:

1) I personally love Zinc in Lenox.

2) For a fancy, get-dressed-up type of dinner, splurge for the Red Lion Inn.

3) My parents love Salmon Run in Lee. Every time I go there I am stuffed, and it isn't too expensive.

I reccommend reservations at all 3 places! Salmon Run is well known by the locals and can get really crowded.
