Things to do before closing...
I dont know if it was on here or not, but I've heard that before you close on a house, you should call Lipa, Oil Company etc. to change the name on the bill... Is this right? If so, who else do I call? Thanks!

You have to call to have your own accounts set up. I don't know if they will just change the name. The people you are buying from should have called to disconnect their service. I would call LIPA, water, cable, National Grid and if you area using the same oil co as the previous owner, call them too.

Yes, you do need to contact LIPA, the oil company/gas company, water company, etc. But you should talk to your realtor and/or attorney -- they should advise you on this, because you need to know when the seller is ending their utility service.
Sometimes sellers terminate their service the day before the closing, sometimes they keep it through the day of, so you need to coordinate to make sure it's seamless and doesn't overlap!
