STUDY: Most Subway Announcements Are Inaudible
NEW YORK -- The MTA's semi-annual report card is out, and it confirms what most of us already knew: It's nearly impossible to hear announcements on subway platforms.
The MTA has found that only about a quarter of announcements made during the first half of this year were understandable. About another quarter of them were completely muffled -- while the rest were either marginally or partially understandable.
The latest numbers are similar to a Straphangers Report issued in February, that said in 65 percent of delays and service changes, there was either no announcement or an inaudible, garbled or incorrect one.
