thermometer
Can everyone tell me what thermometer they received, register for and use besides the rectal one.
We originally registered for the one Buy buy baby reccomends where you don't have to put the thermometer on the baby, but it got horrible reviews.

Re: thermometer
We have the Braun ear thermometer. It's quick read which is great because DD is very fidgety.

Re: thermometer
The ped's office won't listen to us at all unless we take a rectal temp. I've taken an ear temp and an underarm temp several times in a 10 minute period and come up with wildly different numbers every time. Even the ear one, I can take it 10 times in 10 seconds and every number is different.
I just suggest getting a good rectal or two and it'll save you a lot of wondering.
I do wonder if the pacifier thermometers work, but considering so many babies like different pacis, I can't imagine they do. It's such a smart idea though!

Re: thermometer
We got a rectal as PP said doctors want rectal temps only! I put a ear one on my registry and no one bought it- my family is all nurses and they didn't want to waste the money! Maybe when LO is older :)

Re: thermometer
My ped office has two huge signs ear thermometers / scan thermometers are not reliable! I have the braun ear one and it's awful always way off the rectal one. Get two good rectal ones.

Re: thermometer
Wow so interesting to read that peds consider rectal to be the most reliable! I had no clue, and registered for and received a Braun ear thermometer, and figured it would be ok. I am definitely going to get a rectal one now to have on hand. Thanks girls for posting this!

Re: thermometer
For a newborn up to 3 or 6 months I cant remember, the most accurate is rectal. After that you can do ear or any other method...
I registered for a rectal and an ear one...

I got the same one. I read that rectal was more accurate but when I mentioned this to my sil who is a nurse she said no way get an ear one. So I did.

Re: thermometer
I personally would not put anything in a newborns ear, so the rectal is what I will be using.
They also have a pacifier thermometer. Look into that one if you are opposed to the rectal thermometer.
