there's a chance we'll be homeless
the lease on our rental ends 4-30, we asked our landlord IF we closed on 3-30, could we get out of our lease. she said fine.
we find out yesterday that there is a very good chance we might not be able to close on friday 3-30, but on monday 4-2.
our landlord just left us a vm that the new tenants will be moving in on 4-1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so, now i'm looking at the posibility of bring homeless for a few days
can nothing be easy in this world??!!

I know it may not help - but could a friend take you in for a day or two, or a family member?
Or worse off - a hotel room?

Did you give her anything in writing that changed your lease? Because if you didn't, you are allowed be there until 4/30. Did you tell her you were definately closing on 3/30?
I don't think she should have rented it for April 1st unless you changed your lease in writing.
I could be wrong tho.

I had this happen with my apt when I bought my co-op. Speak to your landlord. I am sure the new tenants would be able to hold off a couple of days being there is enough advance notice.

i would talk to your landlord. if you didn't change anything in writing and you took this upon herself, then she should have to give you an extension. that doesn't seem right.

Speak to the movers - they can probably keep your stuff in storage for a couple of days. then, get a hotel or stay with friends/family.

Re: there's a chance we'll be homeless
after i posted, i got to thinking. it's a matter of "the next business day" which just happens to have a weekend in the middle. i don't think that there is anything that can legally force us to leave on firday.
and if she didn't want to "let us stay", she would have to "evict us" which would take too long and be too much work for just a matter of days.
so... this is what we'll be doing: on monday, dh will call our landlord and tell her that we won't know what's going on until wednesday. and if it's "not good" we'll be out within the first five days of the month. i'm willing to pay for five days worth of rent.
it's not my fault that she went out and got tenants to move in before the date we gave her... that's on her.
thank you all for reading and posting.
as most of you know... the home-buying process is such a roller-coaster ride!
