The Very Noisy Night (a little long)
Terrible, awful book.
So I got Jake this book as part of a "naptime collection" - ordered through one of the school book programs (Scholastic, I think).
We snuggled in bed last night for a bedtime story. In the book, Little Mouse and Big Mouse (actually the parent, not a sibling from my interpretation) sleep in the same room, but not the same bed.
Little mouse keeps hearing noises throughout the night (from owls hooting to the wind, to tapping branches, etc) and each time wakes up Big Mouse and asks to get in bed with him. Big Mouse says no each time and puts Little Mouse back to bed, reassuring him that everything is fine.
So we are enjoying the book, Jake is engrossed and I'm thinking, of course a great lesson is to be learned at the end of this book. But noooooooooooo...
Do you want to hear what happens at the end??? Big Mouse CAVES in and lets Little Mouse in the bed... they both FINALLY get to sleep and then don't hear the alarm in the morning.
Nice lesson.
So guess what MYYYY little mouse did all night? Yep, you guessed it. Not only did I catch him actually trying to SNEAK into my bed in the middle of the night for the first time EVER, of course he was hearing all kinds of noises and got up three times.

Oh and guess who slept in til almost 8am this morning? Uh-huh. He gets up all cranky and pouty and the following conversation takes place:
Me: "Well good morning Little Mouse"
Jake [crumpling his brow indignantly]: "I'm NOT Little Mouse!"
Me: "That's right, and I'm not Big Mouse so don't ever try that again!"
Seriously. Terrible book, terrible lesson.

I'm right there with ya.
I was actually going to put in our Scholastic book order, so I need to make I skip over that one.
