The TV/Video Game Made Me Do It!!!!
When cases come up where a child or minor is charged with a crime and they blame movies, tv or video games for their violent act; do you buy it.
Where do we as a society draw the line and say "no, you need to be held accountable for your actions and not do something b/c you saw it in a movie or video game and thought it was OK".
Thoughts?

I've never heard of a kid (or an adult) playing Cooking Mama, then deciding to give mom/DW a break and make dinner for the family.....
I don't buy it.....

and like i said in the other thread---its the parent's responsibility to KNOW what type of games their kid is playing.
if you buy GTA or Max Payne for your 12 year old....you aren't doing them a favor.

Nope, don't buy it at all!!
I was a kid. I watched movies and TV, I listened to music, heck I even played a few video games. But I never felt the urge to run out and do something illegal.

I'm sorry - but there is NO excuse for this riduculous type of 'defense' .......We ALL watched violent movies and TV - even played video games ..........our PARENTS taught us the difference bewteen REAL life, and make believe - TV, movies, Video games - Are NOT real life ..............I'm sorry, but if a kid can't understand that concept, they have bigger problems. -
ETA: a kid who is OLD enough to play such games/watch TV/movies who SHOULD be able to comprehend the difference -

I think all forms of life factor in who we become.
As for violent videos game, point blank, I don't feel they are ok for young kids. 15-16 years old, fine. 12-14, maybe, but under 12 NO WAY. There are tons of videos games that are none violent like sports games (ie baseball, football, etc). I think it is the parents responsibility to watch over what there kids are doing, whether its on the internet, tv, radio, and video games. My DH feels very differently. He loves war games, which I find too violent. Granted the message is TOTALLY different than Grand Theft Auto (which I find horrible).

But do these factors cause kids to commit violent acts?
