Re: The Secret
I read an interesting critique of the book by a preacher who was concerned about the emphasis on material gain. I haven't read it but apparantly, it's a very self centered approach to life with an emphasis on materialism and personal gain, not on things like world peace, equality, etc. I'm curious if anyone who read it felt that way.

The secret is about the Law of Attraction. It just tells you that you attract what you think about and focus on. The universe responds to YOUR energy. If your energy is negative, you will see negative results - for example if you are constantly worried and thinking about bills - you just keep generating bills.
It does go on a bit about material gain - but only because - quite frankly - that is what most people want. People don't generally think about spiritual and emotional enrichment. But the principles can easily be applied to any area of your life that you feel is lacking.
Having said that - I am still out with regard to my feelings about this book. It is a simple idea and they go into a lot of detail about the IDEA - but they don't give much in the way of how to really apply what they talk about.
What the Bleep Are We Here For is a better flick along the same lines.
