The hunger strike is over...
and Im empty...
today is day 3 of DS not wanting to eat, and sure enough.... tonight he ends the strike and keeps looking for more food...
He has been trying to nurse every hour, and I can FEEL that Im empty...
Finally I pumped just now (he last ate at 8- I woke him to feed him and he did a quick 10min on the left) sure enough...both breasts completely dry- 10 min of pumping and I probably didnt even get a tspn worth combined (usually I can pump 4-7oz w/o a problem)
What do I do now... Im sooo upset

Do you have any frozen milk? Keep nursing and pumping back to back for a couple of days. Your supply will come back. Don't stress. That's the worst thing you can do.

Don't give up! Just pump and nurse as much as you can until it comes back. This happens to me all the time-- we have good days and bad days. Today was a bad one, so I am going to pump, even if nothing comes out, just to stimulate the flow. Good luck!

Babies will ALWAYS go back to the breast.... It's in their nature. Sometimes it takes more work then others.
Alexa didn't latch until 7 W 5 D..... and she was exclusively bottle fed those first 8 weeks. She easily goes back and forth now. The older andmore mature a baby gets the easier it is for them to switch back and forth.
Keep nursing and pumping and supplement wither with pumped BM or whatever else you are comfortable with in teh mean time. your supply WILL come back up!

Re: The hunger strike is over...
maris your baby is MUCH more efficient at getting milk than the pump! let him nurse as much as he wants and your supply will go back, i promise. plus you can get mother's milk plus (i think that's what it's called) and that should help increase your supply.
only supplement with a bottle if you need to. if you can stand feeding him every hour, he will get full eventually. plus he may be wanting to eat that often b/c he's going thru a growth spurt, which will make you feel empty even if he's getting milk.
you can do this!!

It took 3 days for him to go back on the breast...Im scared giving a bottle now is going to make it worse....
How long will it take until I see my supply go back up???
I just dont get it...although he was on strike he was still eating...just not as much

I know about the baby being more efficient then the pump- but usually at this time- when he only eats from one breast I get a good 4oz....something def. isnt right for me to get nothing...
His dirty/wet diapers are down...but I def am still getting 5 wet and 5 dirty a day (just not as wet/as dirty as usual)
I just dont get how there can be such a huge drop in under 3 days

how old is he now? i forget exactly when, but around 6-8 weeks DS started having fewer dirty diapers. his wet diapers were about the same though. 10 diapers a day seems normal to me!
when you nurse him does he get frustrated or does he seem satisfied after 10 minutes (even if it's only for an hour)? can you see any milk at the corners of his mouth?

He is 6 weeks 5 days...
The 1st 2 days he seemed fine... tonight (when the strike ended) is when he started crying and sucking on EVERYTHING looking for food...
He sucks sooo hard and then starts to cry...
ETA- I dont see any milk, but I dont normally...

i can't imagine how frustrated you are.
the only way to get your supply back up is to have him nurse as much as he needs to. but of course he needs to eat. supplement if you have to and nurse when you can. definitely look into getting this:
more milk plus
i never used it but it is highly recommended and is supposed to work quickly.
also, consider contacting a lactation consultant in the morning, maybe they will have better advice for you

Re: The hunger strike is over...
No matter what, keep putting him to the breast. Even if he's not getting anything, it's the single best thing you can do to boost your supply.
I know it can be frustrating, but keep at it. You can do it!!

my dd does this sometimes too, are you sure its not gas? a lot of times I have to stop and burp dd during a feeding lately b/c she is so gassy and still wants to eat but cant. I had a day here and there where I felt like my milk supply was low and she was frustrated too. I tried to relax and just keep letting her suck even though she would get annoyed b/c it would take longer but more milk eventually came in. Make sure you are eating and drinking enough.

Sometimes that happens because of gas...but I know that he is hungry and Im not giving him enough right now...
I woke up in the middle of the night to pump....(since he didnt get up to eat) and Ill pump after some feedings today as well...
Im gonna drink water like crazy, keep eating my oatmeal, and pharmcat was soooo generous to offer me a bottle of mother milk that she has (THANKS) and Im going to start that today...
Im just hoping I see an increase today, so I dont have to give DS a bottle of BM- since I believe thats what led to this strike in the 1st place...

Re: The hunger strike is over...
It could be that your body has figured out what he exactly needs or you could be getting AF if you didn't get it already. I noticed a decrease when I got AF each time of the month. If your body regulated it's self then you won't feel the let down as much and you also won't get that full feeling. I EBF and when I tried to pump I would only get an oz. combine and that was when DD missed a feeding (this went on for 11 months).
I am also almost positive they have another growth spurt around that age. So he could be eating every hour just because of that.
What ever you do, continue to BF.

Re: The hunger strike is over...
I agree, take the bottle away for a few days and just try to spend as much time with him at the breast as possible.
If he cries, try to settle him down and the put him back. The more he sucks, the more your supply will increase. Pump in between nursing sessions. But do not be alarmed if you don't get a lot!
Hang in there. Your supply will come back. Try to take a deep breath and relax.
In the beginning with Ryan, each time he was at the breast I forced myself to drink a full glass of water before the session was over. Then I forced myself to drink 1 glass in between sessions.
There is also More Milk (which is a tea that can be found in any "good" food store like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods).
