The Committment (A Challenge for 2008)
We have ALL been there...the new year comes around and we make a resolution only to have it all go down the tubes by mid-February. Therefore, I now just make three commitments. They can go all year like a resolution or just be a one time thing.
Here's how it works. You make three commitments, one for the world around you (neighbors, friends, acquaintances); One for your family (DH, DC, mom, dad, brother, sister, etc.); and one for yourself. Who's in? What are your thoughts?
I will start.
My Three Commitments:
For the world around me: To really help other moms when I see a need. Like holding a door open, making a meal for someone who just had a baby, watching someone's child if they need a break.
For my Family: I commit to be kinder to my DH and not to be short tempered with him anymore.
For Myself: I commit to honor my body by not feeding it junk and making a real effort everyday to get to the gym. AND on the days I fall short, I commit to give myself a break and start over the next day.

Re: The Committment (A Challenge for 2008)
for the world around me: i resolve to spend less on "stuff" and more on charities that will help improve the lives of others less fortunate than me.
for my DH: i resolve to treat him as well as he treats me. i am sarcastic and snarky with him too much - he deserves a nicer spouse then that!
for myself: i resolve to stop beating myself up about my looks. my thighs may not be perfect (far from it!) but i do fill out my pants quite nicely

Re: The Committment (A Challenge for 2008)
the dreaded C word Can I say 'try' instead
1. World - I will continue to work with the various charities (women's shelter, etc) that I stared with and finally get registered as a red cross volunteer along with my hubby. (working on this but need to reach out and make a call)
2. Family - Try hard to be there for my brother right now even though I don't know what's wrong, I'm gonna try to help. I am also going to survive a holiday with my husband's step aunt (good luck) Find a way to see my Dad in 2008
3. Me - Get PREGNANT

Yes you can. It is more about really thinking about making lasting changes as opposed to deciding at 11:55PM on December 31st what to make a resolution about, KWIM? Try is totally OK.

Re: The Committment (A Challenge for 2008)
World: to start volunteering somewhere--I have been thinking about it but always seem "too busy"
Family: to spend more time with them and appreciate them more
Me: Two things: 1. to make this new year's resolution the last time I say "to lose weight" (have you seen the Valerie Bertinelli commecials? they really hit home for me.) and 2. To have the courage to find someone to spend the rest of my life with.

Re: The Committment (A Challenge for 2008)
World: I've got the recycle part down...focus on the reduce and reuse part (I know they come first)!
Family: To enjoy special times with each other and do little things that make us happy togethr
Me: stretch in the am, take vitamins, enjoy a bubble bath every once in a while
