the bank has ordered the appraisal
where is the puke icon?  
gimme a ball park...especially those who used Chase....about how long does it take? how long will I be waiting to know if the house appraised for the price we are paying?

We used Chase and I can't really remember how long it took, but I do know that they didn't even go in or up to the house. I was told they just did a drive by and all was good!

first, at the sake of sounding Mr. Rogers-y...I cannot WAIT for you to be my neighbor 
second...that's what I heard...I kinda wish they would go in to see how nice it is and appraise it HIGHER

One of the moms on LIF is an appraiser on Long Island and I am sure she can tell you if they do a drive by or not. FM her, her screen name is "-Lisa-"...I think???

My bank did an appraisal, and she came inside, went through every room, took copious notes, asked for details about the place, etc. I think she did a very detailed and extremely accurate appraisal. The bank had the appraisal info from her in a few days (less than a week).
I think just the fact that you will be living there makes the house more valuable....

I feel drive-by's aren't giving an actual reading of an entire house. You can only see so much. I truly beleive a walk in shows a home's true colors and value. Is there any way you can order them to come in if you feel more comfortable with that? And which may also increase your appraisal?
I would think for new mortgages, appraisals would be for both in and out?

DH is an appraiser - usually they go in, measure the major rooms, take photos of the major rooms and take notes on anything that could increase/decrease teh house value (deck, finished basement, etc).
In addition to that, they find comps in the area and can get a value based on that.
usually the inspection and the comps are needed.

I don't think ours took long, but stay on top of Chase. The broker screwed up our closing, so that we had to adjourn and reconvene a few days later.

Chase is one of my clients. They generally ask that the appraisals be submitted within 48hrs of inspection.
