Thanksgiving Leftovers
on the what to expect ap today it said not to eat thanksgiving leftover if they have been sitting out for 2 hours or more...i have never heard of this before and didn't pay attention to that guideline last time.
are others following this and like wrapping up a plate of left overs right away so you have them "fresh" or is this something others aren't aware of and have been ignoring?

Re: Thanksgiving Leftovers
ehh i didnt know about that guideline, but i didnt pay attention to it last year and wont be paying attention to it this year
eta - i am not even sure if the food is out for more than 2 hours...it gets served and once the table gets cleared everyone packs up what they want to go and puts it in the refrigerator.

Re: Thanksgiving Leftovers
I had never paid attention to the time but they said that if something is sitting out from the time you eat to the time of dessert you should skip eating it the next day.

Re: Thanksgiving Leftovers
That is a general rule, really has nothing to do with being pregnant.

Thanksgiving Leftovers
This is the FDA recommendation to prevent food borne illness for everyone-but since your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy there is an increased chance that if you ate something that has been sitting out you could become sick.

Thanksgiving Leftovers
I ate leftovers for at least a week. That's the best part of thanksgiving.

Re: Thanksgiving Leftovers
This isnt just for pregnant women, but as Pp said, its a recommended guideline. It depends on the food for me. If its something acidic, IMO, it can sit longer than something that is made with milk/cream etc.
I also make sure to heat my plate of leftovers thoroughly.
Also, 2 hours is a long time...my mom usually had the food wrapped up by then to make sure there is room on the table for dessert!

Thanksgiving Leftovers
Oh I'll be eating leftovers. We don't usually leave stuff out more than 2 hours anyway.

I saw this too. I'm planning on enjoying the leftovers. I'm pretty sure those are the same guidelines for everyone, not just pregnant people.

This exactly. Its not really about pregnancy - just food safety in general. I am always the food police (even when not pregnant) and remind everyone to start wrapping everything up and putting it away. I think its gross to just leave food sitting out - I wouldn't want to eat the leftovers if they've been there 2 hours

Re: Thanksgiving Leftovers
I think its just common sense. Don't get food poisoning when you are pregnant. So if it could give you food poisioning, don't do it. But hellz yes I will be having some leftovers!
