Re: thanksgiving - turkey
If all 9 adults and 3 kids eat Turkey... Depending on if you want leftovers or not, I would say 16-22 pounds.

Re: thanksgiving - turkey
When we have 15 adults, I think we usually get a 25 pounder.
For 20 adults, you will need 35 pounds probably.
Here are some turkey calculators:

Re: thanksgiving - turkey
I get a fresh kosher turkey because they are pre-brined and my family insists on a kosher bird. For 11 people I get a 17-19 lb bird. Generally under 15 lbs is all bone.

I would get a large turkey and another meat or two turkeys. There is no way a bird that would feed 20 adults would fit into a normal oven. Do you have a double oven?

I agree with this. I put it all in pounds, but technically, most people choose to do two birds by splitting the amount you need in pounds into two equal halves or having 3/4ths a turkey and another meat. When my mom always made thanksgiving she always included a second type of meat. But it's not impossible, I am pretty sure she cooked a 25 pound turkey in our normal sized oven before and it fit fine. It just needs to be cooked a super long time!!

Thanks for the advice, i talked to my dad, and he said when you get a bigger turkey its a "TOM" and may not be as good as a smaller turkey, so he suggested i get 2, 12-14 pound turkeys
Yes i have a double wall oven.

Re: thanksgiving - turkey
always a kosher bird from the butcher.
I usually get one under 15 lbs. but I have a small crowd.
If you want leftovers I would opt for a large 20+ lb bird.

I would go for the 14 lb birds because the smaller ones are really all bone and very little meat. I would actually do an 18 lb and a 14 lb bird so that you will have some real meat. The first 12 or so lbs on a turkey is bone/carcas/fat.
