Testing offered

My doctor recommended downs sydrome and trisomy18 testing. I discussed the options with my husband and he left the decision up to me. We can do the ultrasound test or the blood test or nothing at all. Just wondering what everyone decided and why. TIA

it is really a personal decision ~ There are a lot of false positives with the blood test ~ my doctor didn't really give me an option (I wish he did and I didn't even think of declining) I took the all the tests but If I had to do it all again I would probably decline. My test came back positive (neaural tube defects) as I am a higher risk scared me to death and I waited for the sono and everything looks good ~ a lot of worrying. And I do all the sono's.

I think this is the NT scan or "triple screen." I got it done (12 weeks) to see if there were any early indicators and due to my age (almost 35). I think I would have gotten it done regardless of my age though so I could decide if I needed to get a CVS or amnio. It's a personal decision but I think most people get this one done.

The bloodwork wasn't presented as an option to me, I have to get that done. The ultrascreen was highly recommended, but my choice. I was on the fence about doing the ultrascreen, but I did make the appointment yesterday.

My doctor told me that if something did show on the ultrascreen, then he would want me to go for an amnio, and then basically told me to consider my opinion on the amnio, and if I'd be willing to get one, bc why go thru the ultrascreen if you're against the amnio.

IDK. I am scared of the idea of getting an amnio. But, I'm only 32 and there is no family history of any genetic disorders on either side, so I am praying the ultrascreen comes back fine and that I won't have to consider it further.

Since it's totally non-invasive, I'm going to do the ultrascreen. It's added peace of mind, plus I get to see the baby again so that's always fun

This testing was not offered to me as a choice, but rather standarized testing...
I do believe its a personal decision, but since the tests are non invasive I wouldnt have declined even if given an option... I understand there are false positives and its not telling you that 100% your child will have it, all it is, is a ratio. Its numbers, what are the possible chances...

I believe the person who posted that this is the nuchal test where they do blood and sono, is correct, and from my understanding its done by 12 weeks and is a standard test done by almost all practices...

I opted out of these tests. DH and I knew that the results would not change anything since we would never terminate. We figured it could just cause a lot of unnecessary worry since they produce a lot of false positives and my doctor did agree. Just know that you do have a choice if you don't want to have it done.
