testing done at first appt
So i was reading the thread about switching OB's after first appt and some said their first OB didn't test for some things and the 2nd one did...I just assumed there was a standard of what to test for...
I have my first appt tomorrow. What SHOULD the doctor be testing for?

1st appt, they will do a urine test to confirm the pregnancy. They will either do or send you for a standard panel of bloodwork. That confirms the pregnancy, checks your blood type, checks your thyroid function, etc. They took about 5 vials of blood for various tests.
You don't have to ask for anything, they know what they need to do.
Good luck!
ETA: They may do a sono depending on how far along you are. I did not have a sono at my first appt.
I was also due for my annual exam so they did a pap spear and exam as well.

Re: testing done at first appt
At my first appt the OB did a sono and then we sat in his office and we had a Q and A session about the pregnancy. He did not draw any blood because the pregnancy was already confirmed by the sono (I was 5w5d) and I had already had blood drawn for genetic testing with my DH before TTC.

Re: testing done at first appt
My md took only like 1 vial at my first appt b/c he did a sono first and it barely showed anything there...he was going to take more if/when I was further along, it ended up I was not as far along as I should have been based on my last period so that's why I didn't have the full bloodwork done right away.

Re: testing done at first appt
My first appointment was with the nurse practitioner. She took a couple vials of blood, tested my urine and gave me a prescription for pre natals, that was at about 6 weeks. At 8 weeks we met with the OB, he did a sonogram and went over some pregnancy basics and discussed upcoming tests.
