terrible 2's I need some advice

Riley will be 2 next month. lately she when we tell her to go to something for say we are done playing with that or we are going inside now or if she falls and DH comes to get her or help her she starts screaming No Dada go away!!! we know she gets frustrated but poor DH is so upset when she does it. We try talking to her etc but again she will be 2 next month. We try to explain that yelling at Dada is not nice and it hurts his feeling. What can we do how can we nip this in the bud?

Thanks if you got this far I hope to hear I'm not alone Chat Icon

The only way to completely avoid this is to lock her in a tower until she's 4 or 5.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Just do a search in here on "terrible 2s", and you'll see that just about all of us have been through it. Just stay consistent, and it will pass.... eventually.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: terrible 2's I need some advice

Two year olds have something in their mind and if you do something different than what they hoped, they are never happy.

Maybe try playing up the next thing you are going to do, to make the transition exciting. I sometimes prepare my girls way before I have to. For instance, a merry go round. I tell my dds it's going to end soon and after we are going to do xyz (something they also like)...so the "ending" isn't as sudden and final ?

As for "yelling" just keep telling her to say sorry because yelling isn't something we do (and hold her accountable for the "sorry")

Re: terrible 2's I need some advice

Does Jeff have much alone time with her? With Will, it really helps him to have time alone with each of us, so that it isn't that he's going to one person over the other.

I thought this was going to be about the jumping, screaming tantrums that we're going through right now. Chat Icon

no jump scream as of yet Beth lol I will be having Jeff spend some more time with Riley its just hard because we are always doing something around the house and Jeff is either outside so I try to keep her away so he can work.

I think that will help--try to give them a day alone, just them, so that she needs to go to him for anything. She's probably used to him taking a backseat, KWIM?Chat Icon

very true I think I'm gonna go on vacation and leave town for a week!! Chat Icon Just kidding

Of course when I'm not home she is just fine with him. I know she doesn't understand why Dada doesn't get in the car with us in the morning to drop her off at my parents etc she will always ask where is dada? But man she does have my little Irish temper
