Telling Mom Before Anyone Else...

Ive been struggling with this question since even before I was preggers lol.

I am very close to my mom but I am also pretty paranoid and somewhat of a private person.. I really don't want to tell anyone about the pregnancy until we confrim a HB at our 1st, sonogram at 8 weeks.

DH and I planned on telling our families (including siblings) at a mother's day bbq that we are hosting at our house. I;ve always envisioned being able to make the annoucnment on mother's day and liked the idea of giving our mom's a picture frame as a mother's day gift.. with the sonogram picture in it.. to "make the announcment". As it turns out the timing miraculous works for us to do just that (God's willing)!

But its nagging at me- will my mom feel hurt that I havent told her before everyone else? At the same time,, I dont want my MIL to be offended if I tell my mom first, I also dont want to tell her anyone until the sonogram (just in case) and I kind of like the way we decided to tell the moms, which wouldnt really work if I told my mom before hand.

whatdya think??

My mom was the second person I told after DH. I needed emotional backup. Then my dad found out, then my ILs, then my best friend and her husband. They kept it to themselves until we were ready to tell everyone.

i made sure to tell my mom before everyone else. we told both sets of parents at 8 weeks, but my parents were told like the day before.
i just felt weird if anyone else knew before her.

eta: im sure if you give her the heads up before mothers day, she will still act all surprised when you tell the rest of the family...and it will make her feel great knowing she knew before everyone

personally, my mom knowing would be more important than my MIL knowing (to me..)
So if you want to tell your mom beforehand.. i'm sure she'd be thrilled and totally understand keeping it a surprise so when you tell everyone else at the bbq, she'll play along.
Either way, the important thing is that they know.. not how they know!

we just told our families all together on Easter. we thought this would be a nice surprise and no one's feelings would get hurt. however, my mom did express later to me that she had hoped i would tell her first.

i would tell your mom privately before Mother's Day and tell her you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so she should act surprised.

i can never win with my family, even when it's good news
