Telling HR
I came out at work so everyone in my dept knows I'm pg. At what point did you tell HR? I work for a large company so I know it's something I have to do officially. And how did you tell? In person or via email?

Telling HR
I would let them know because paperwork would have to be filed for your maternity leave. Since you say you work for a large company you would be entitled to FMLA and you need to fill out paperwork. If it's too early they will tell you when to let them know. I contacted them and was given everything but told to wait until June to file my paperwork otherwise it could get lost (I'm due end of August). I just made a note to file it then.

Telling HR
I waited towards the end of my second trimester to tell HR. I had to have my FMLA paper work signed.
I emailed them and made an appointment to discuss paperwork and leave

Re: Telling HR
I just had a meeting with her. Im 30 weeks. I sent her an email letting her know and saying I wanted to meet with her to go over a few things. Then we met in person to discuss everything.

Re: Telling HR
I'm only 12 weeks so I was wondering if I had to tell them yet or should wait.

You can wait as long as you want, but depending on your company's maternity leave policy there may be things that you have to get in writing. For example, if you qualify for FMLA, there is paperwork your doctor needs to fill out.

Re: Telling HR
You don't have to tell them until you want to (I'm in HR ) though you will want to give yourself some lead time to take care of paperwork, learn your company maternity leave policy, etc.
If your company is large enough that they have to follow FMLA laws then at some point you will need to let them know so you can get the paperwork your doc will need to complete and any paperwork or contact info for your Short Term Disability carrier so you can take care of that too.

Telling HR
does your company have a specific policy they want you to follow? iw ould probably just send them an email letting them know and see what they say. if they say its too early and to file a little bit later, then just do it later on

Thanks, that's what I plan on doing. I know I don't have to file the paperwork this early but I might as well let them tell me when I do have to get the ball rolling.

Re: Telling HR
I told them around 23 weeks. My immediate supervisor knew as did her supervisor. I just needed paperwork from HR. I'll have my dr fill it out next time I see him so I'm all set.

Re: Telling HR
I told HR around 15 weeks or so. I work for a very large company, so wanted to ensure I understood all the benefits. One thing I didn't know is that I need to use 5 of my own accrued days, before FMLA kicks in. So, glad to know that early (before spending them all in advance!)
