How do you know when your baby is teething?

Re: Teething

My doctor says that they begin early, like two months. I know that my DS has been putting his hand (and evertything else) in his mouth a lot.

Re: Teething

I wish I knew...11 1/2 mos. later!!!!!!!

Really, people have been telling us for MONTHS, "Oh boy, she's teething!" simply because everything goes in her mouth. Isn't that what babies do anyway?? I'm clueless and no help...sorry!

This is exactly what she has been doing! All the time, I can't keep her fingers out of her mouth!!

Re: Teething

Don't forget that babies learn about their environment through putting things in their mouths. So that's not always a sign of teething. Ava's beginning to do this a lot now, too.

See - Ali has had her fingers in her mouth since she was born. So that is why I didn't think much of it. But now she is Drooling like mad and she has been soooo cranky. So I wasn't sure if she was or not.

Re: Teething

Well, I was also convinced that Ava was beginning to teeth because of the drooling, but I have been doing a lot of reading, and this is the age they begin to drool. I was surprised because I always thought they began to drool when they were getting ready to cut a tooth. But it's just excess saliva. But it's not impossible for them to teeth this early.

ETA: I also read that the saliva coats everything they put in their mouths and covers it with germ-fighting somethings or others (I forget the word they used), so that the drooling kind of syncs up with when they become coordinated enough to stick stuff in their mouths.
