I saw that this morning. Ok, I get that the drivers are supposed to check the car after the fares and he was warned - fair enough. But the parents are not blameless here and should be accountable for this situation also!!

The cabbie gets investigated & not the parents? Ummm that doesn't seem fair or right.

Both parties were wrong - the cabbie should have checked the back seat like the rule states, and the parents should have accounted for all their children.

HOWEVER, I feel the parents were mostly in the wrong here.

Its YOUR child, shouldn't you be watching them WHEREVER, WHENEVER?

Doesn't seem fair that the cabbie almost gets his license suspended because of this & they get nothing.

you know, i think that rule was created so that cabbies would check for BELONGINGS after each fare - not CHILDREN.

how ridiculous. at least the parents aren't suing - yet Chat Icon

Maybe I am misreading the article, but I don't see this as finger pointing. He was called in by the company/organization that regulates taxis in Boston not because the parents complained but because they called about leaving their child in the car so they can get her back and that's what triggered the reprimand.

Re: Taxi driver almost blamed for kid left in cab

It said that the cabbie got the call minutes later. It wasn't like he had parked the cab at the end of his shift and left the child in there.

The parents weren't calling to blame him and I am sure they company had protocol to follow.

I hope nothing else comes out of this.

at first though they were going to suspend the cabbie for three days and then they let him keep his license pending a hearing- it seems like they are blaming him- which is ridiculous- he drove the kid home as soon as they contacted him

I hope it's a wake up call to everyone to check for their belongings AND CHILDREN...and for cab drivers who should check the back of their cab too.

I got that part. That's all the taxi agency's doing not because the parents did/said anything to get him in trouble - that's what my response was referring to.

But according to their rules, he didn't follow proper procedure about checking the vehicle after the fare and that's what the hearing is about. I think they are reaching and perhaps using this guy as an example. I think just about every cab driver is going to be double checking their vehicles today.
