Taxes
I was just wondering... since the values of houses have dropped over the past few years, shouldn't the taxes drop as well?? Has anyones taxes dropped since the house values have?

Re: Taxes
Your assesssment should drop but the actual amount of taxes you pay probably won't go down because tax rates increase every year.

Re: Taxes
if your assessed value is higher than the current market value for your home, you can grieve your taxes. Your taxes aren't likely to decrease on their own.
I know in the town of Smithtown, they base 2011 taxes on market value as of 7/2010. We've been receiving a lot of appraisal requests from homeowners grieving their taxes. (You generally need to provide an appraisal that shows a market value lower than the assessed value.)
