Tax Reductions!!
I just spoke to a town assessor about a veterans deduction just to see how much the town offers and she told me that unless we apply by March 1st (which of course we won't be because we haven't even found a house yet) we won't get any reductions in taxes until 2009!!!! THAT'S INSANE!!!!!!

Yes, you apply by March 1, 2007 and the reductions go towards the following year - 2008. If you apply after 3/1 it obviously extends to the following year, 2009.
However when you purchase a house, if the previous owner's had STAR or enhanced STAR, you will pay those taxes until the new year. So it's not so bad

Yup! That's right on the ball. Reason why DH and I went to the DMV today to change our address over, so we can submit all the paper work next week for STAR.

dont forget to make copies of the dr.lic & deed to give with the STAR app - just so you dont have to hunt to make copies there  i did submitted ours last friday

true, but if you itemize your taxes you can deduct your taxes, school, villlage, and town. your topic should say tax reductions.
