tax question but re: IVF
what's the deal with mileage? I know it can be used as a write off, but how do you calculate it? Sorry, I feel SO stupid right now (what else is new lately).
While I'm asking, we can put any $$$ that we paid towards medical insurance (when DH was freelance and we paid a month for it, not his small portion that he pays since he's full time thru his company that he works for now) down as well right? I got a printout of my copays and extra $ we've paid towards prescriptions from last year as well- are they useful to us too? TIA!

Hey Honey,
I am not sure about the milage thingy...
But def print out all copays for dr. and for prescriptions...
I THINK... that you can claim the portion that your DH pays for insurance.... I know my accountant asks me every time how much I pay per paycheck and then he does his lil calculator thing...
Good Luck!!! I hope you get lots and lots of money back!

Thanks Carlie! I didn't even think to add that in---- he only started in Nov anyway, so it wouldn't amount to much, but the amount we used to pay out of pocket when he was freelance was so I am hoping we can write some of that off. Thanks!

Ohhhhhhhhhhh... If you guys were paying out of pocket too!!! I think you can DEF Claim that... But, I beleive you can only claim your health expenses if it is more then 7% then your total gross income...
Good Luck!!!

Re: tax question but re: IVF
From what I read online, you could deduct mileage too. Like someone else said, bring everything to the accountant and ask there. I remember reading there were a huge list of things to write off on the medical end that I never thought you could. GL.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do- lol. But I didn't realize that some of this stuff could be used and don't have it prepared... so I have today to get it all together unfortunately... why is why I'm trying to gather the stuff that I'm fairly certain can be used first. I just don't want to miss anything if I can help it. Thanks!

Re: tax question but re: IVF
Sorry to crash but when I have to submit mileage for reimbursement at work I go to mapquest.com and enter starting point and destination - they give you the total miles along with the directions. Can you then use that, the number of doctor/lav visits, etc to estimate? Hope this helps!

Thank you SO much!! That's actually what I did yesterday. I printed both places (there's 2 location that I go to depending on what day it is) and am going thru my file to get each of my dates so I know which place I went. Great tip though!
